HOMEPAGE

Irene Symms

Irene Knowlton Symms, of Sunny Slope, died September 5, 1994, at the Nampa hospital of natural causes.
Irene was born July 3, 1907, in Nampa, the daughter of Louis C. and Bertha Huff Knowlton.  She was raised and educated in Caldwell, graduating from Caldwell High School in 1924.  Irene attended the College of Idaho for two years before teaching school at both Maple Grove and Sunny Slope elementary schools.
Irene married Darwin Symms in 1928.  Except for a three-year period of homesteading west of Homedale, she lived the rest of her life in Sunny Slope.  She spent her life on the family fruit operation, assisting her husband and content to be surrounded by the bustling business and a large loving family.  Her greatest happiness was a home where the entire family gathered for lunch, a freshly-baked fruit pie or homemade cookies.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin; a brother; and a sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley S. Maggard of Greenleaf and Ginger Kleweno of Vancouver, Washington;  two sons, Dick Symms of Sunny Slope and Steve Symms of Alexandria, Virginia; fifteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, were held at 10:30 am. today, September 8, 1994, at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Caldwell.  A private committal service will be held at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
Irene's family requests that memorial contributions be made in her name to the Symms Athletic Field at Albertson College or a favorite charity.
