Information for Iona Rebecca Hershey Dempke
22 January 1868 - 11 February 1916
From The Caldwell Tribune
18 February 1916
Contributed by Tammy Thompson

NOTE - Iona's name on the headstone is Iona Hershey.
This is her maiden name.  According to the Death
Certificate it states she was "Beat up by insane husband."
So, it goes to reason that relatives are showing her
maiden name on the headstone.  Also, she is buried in
the Wilder Cemetery and not Roswell Cemetery as stated
in the obituary.

Mrs. A. Dempke passed away at the local hospital Friday as a result of a second stroke of apoplexy.  She was taken to the hospital a week ago.  Mrs. Dempke, nee Hershey, had been married hardly two years.  Hardly a month ago the husband was committed to the asylum at Blackfoot.  Alleged cruelty to the wife was taken as one of the evidences of his unbalanced condition and it is possible that his treatment of her had something to do with bringing about a second recurrence of apoplectic trouble.  A sister, Mrs. Garman, of Wilder, survives.  The funeral service was held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon at Wilder, with burial in the Roswell cemetery.  (Actually buried in the Wilder Cemetery)
