Isaac J. Beals, son of Thomas and Elizabeth
Beals, was born near Rich land, Keokuck County, Iowa, April
14, 1857. Died at Greenleaf, Idaho, Mar. 27, 1916, aged 58
years 11 months and 13 days. His childhood and youth were
spent in Iowa and his young manhood near Piatt, South Dakota,
to which place he took as his bride Cora Bufkin of Linville,
Iowa, August 13, 1891. They resided here until 1897, when they
removed to Searsboro, Ia. In January, 1908 he with his family
came to Greenleaf, Idaho, where he lived until his death. To
this union were born four children. Prescott, Louclla, Ellis
and Charles, all of whom survive him. The wife and mother
having proceeded him to the better land just eleven days.
He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters. In
early manhood he was converted and joined the Congregational
church, of which he was a member until about 1898, when he
with his wife ioined the Friends church at Searsboro, Ia., of
which he has been a faithful and consistent member since.
While he resided in Searsboro he was engaged in the
mercantile-business. In spite of business cares he found time
to engage in the work of the church, being superintendent of
the Sabbath school for a number of years. He was also active
in fighting the liquor traffic. Since coming to Greenleaf his
life has been filled with service for the church and
community, he and his wife having been deeply interested in
every movement for the betterment of the social, moral and
spiritual life of all those about them. As a member of the
district school board, he served the whole community for an
extended period. For several years he was superintendent of
the Sabbath school, in which he was always a willing worker.
He served the monthly meeting efficiently ill many ways but
his largest service was rendered to the community by his deep
and abiding interest in Greenleaf academy. He was a
charter member of the board and for nearly four years was its
president, which office he held at the time of his death.
It was largely to the concern of Isaac and Cora Beals for
advanced educational facilities for their family that the
community is indebted for Greenleaf academy. They are gone
but their work and their positive influence has left a stamp
upon the life of the homes and schools and church at Greenleaf
which time can never erase. We are sure that their many
good deeds will blossom and bear fruit for time and eternity,
while their places arc vacant and hearts of loved ones are
sore we are much comforted by the assurance which they both
left, that the Master's summons was, "Well done good and
faithful servants, enter thou into the joys of thy Lord."j |
