Ruth Iona Sales Steel, 85, of Parma, died Wednesday, January
20, 1993, at home of natural causes. Funeral services
will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 25, 1993, at
Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church, Parma. Rev. Ralph
Marshall will officiate. Private interment will be at
Roswell Cemetery. Services are under the direction of
Dakan Funeral Chapel, Parma. Mrs. Steel
was born April 7, 1907, at Park City, Montana, the daughter of
Charles E. and Hattie Strampe Sales. As a child, she
moved to California and then Oregon with her parents. In
1917 they moved to the Payette Valley and to New Plymouth in
1920. She attended Albion Teacher's College and taught
school near New Plymouth at the Willow Creek School. She
also taught in Fruitland and Boise and later in Parma.
She married John K. Steel, December 26, 1940, at Caldwell.
Mrs. Steel retired from teaching in 1973. Mr. Steel died
January 26, 1986. She was a member of
Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church, Parma; Golden Rule
Chapter No. 31, Order of the Eastern Star, Nyssa, Ore.; Ruby
Rebekah Lodge No. 49, Parma; Iris Temple, Daughters of the
Nile and the Syringa Club. She is
survived by a son, Robert and Debbie Steel; a daughter,
Catherine and Bruce Pusey; and four grandchildren, Brenda
Steel, Melissa Pusey, Jonathan Pusey and Robert Steel Jr.; and
a sister, Marceda Millage and her husband Clair.
