HOMEPAGE

Elsie Steel

Elsie M. Steel, 87, of Caldwell, passed away peacefully Wednesday Dec. 29, 1993, at a Caldwell nursing home.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 1993, at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.  Reverend Don Brown of the Star Friends Church will officiate.  Burial will be at the Wilder Cemetery, Wilder, Idaho.
Elsie was born June 13, 1906, at Terrell, Texas, to Henry and Madie Stroud McFerrin.  After the untimely death of Elsie's father, her family moved to her grandparents' home in Arkansas.  The family moved to Caldwell and then on to live in the Owyhees.  She married William E. Steel in August of 1926.  Billy and Elsie homesteaded their ranch on Succor Creek.  After selling the ranch they settled in Caldwell.  She worked at the Elks Lodge at the old location for many years.  She then raised cattle on Canyon Hill.  Elsie loved her home on Fillmore Street and worked in her yard until she was 83.  She enjoyed and loved all children and always had some with her to care for.  After her sister Dottie passed away she lovingly raised her niece Betty Pegram Suitter.
Her surviving family include Art and Betty Suitter of Boise; a niece, Sandra (Mrs. Otis Applegarth) of Caldwell; her sister, Mattie Edwards, and a nephew, Leo Holmes, both of Caldwell; her sister, Goldie Chenault and a niece Alene Van Komen, both of George, Washington; a niece, Mary (Mrs. Cotton Perryman) of Caldwell; and extended family including other nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billy Steel; brother, Woodrow John; and a sister, Dottie McFerrin Pegram.
Friends may call today until 8 p.m. at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
