Lt. Col. R. Lynn Spillman
(Ret.), 89, of Caldwell, died Friday, March 13, 1992, at
Burley care center. Funeral services will be held at 10
a.m. Wednesday at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Rev.
Harry L. Granger of the First Baptist Church, Emmett, will
officiate. Burial will follow at the Middleton Cemetery.
Mr. Spillman was born February 2, 1903, in Missouri, to Thomas
and Inez Spillman. He attended grade school in Middleton
and graduated from Caldwell High School. Mr. Spillman
received a bachelor's degree from the College of Idaho and his
master's degree from the University of Idaho. He taught
school for a short time in Notus and Bonners Ferry before
joining the U.S. Army Cavalry. He later served in the
National Guard and Reserves before being called to active duty
during World War II. He married Etha R. Wilton, July 20,
1935, at Elgin, Nebraska. Mr. Spillman's military career
included serving in the European Theatre of Operation's during
World War II following which he became the head of R.O.T.C.
and a professor of Military Strategy and Tactics at Temple
University. He served in the Korean War and at the time
of his retirement in 1956 he was sta-tioned at Fort Eustis,
Virginia. Following his retirement,
they moved to Middleton and then later to Caldwell. Mrs.
Spillman passed away May 7, 1990. Mr.
Spillman was an avid high schoo1 and college sports booster.
He was a Life member of Caldwell Elk's Lodge #1448 and had
been an active member of the Caldwell Rotary Club.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Arlynn and Richard
Maggard of Rupert; a sister, Ermil Buchan of Sheridan,
Wyoming; four grand-children, Richard L. and Scott Maggard,
Melanie Holmes and Nicole Maggard; and three
great-granddaughters, Lacy Holmes and Shannon and Kellie
Maggard. Friends may call at Dakan
Funeral Chapel, Caldwell from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
