Hazel E. Kressly Smith

     Hazel E. Kressly Smith, 94, of Nyssa, Ore., beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 21, 1996, in a Boise hospital.
    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at the Nyssa Christian Church, with Pastor Roy Strayer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Parma, Idaho, Cemetery.  Services are under direction of the Nyssa Lienkaemper Chapel.
    She was born Oct. 8, 1901, at Beloit, Kan., the daughter of Enoch and Alma McKee Philbrick.  She married Lloyd T. Kressly on Sept. 4, 1922, at Beloit.  There were five children born to this union.  In 1944, Hazel and her children moved to Oregon.
    Hazel married Wyatt C. Smith in 1948 at Nyssa.  She lived in Nyssa for 52 years.  She began working for the Nyssa Telephone Co. in 1945, and continued working for the telephone company until her retirement in 1965.
    Hazel was a member of the Nyssa Christian Church.  She enjoyed many hours in the service of her Lord.  She greatly enjoyed her many friends and the hours that she spent with them playing bridge.
    Hazel's children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren always came first.  She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
    Hazel is survived by her husband, Wyatt; two daughters, Jeanne Strickland and husband, Don of Nyssa, and Geraldine Hawkins of Ontario, Ore.; a son, Duane Kressly and his wife, Edie of Ontario; a daughter-in-law, Joan Kressly of Lemon, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four stepchildren, Wilbur, Vance, Walter and Melvin; numerous stepgrandchildren; a special stepgrandson, Kenneth Smith of Ontario; and a host of family and friends.
    Friends may call this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nyssa Lienkaemper Chapel.
    Memorials may be made to the Nyssa Christian Church or the Nyssa Senior Citizen Center, c/o Lienkaemper Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Ontario, Ore. 97914.
