Bernie J. "Pop"
Soehnlein

     Bernie J. "Pop" Soehnlein, 84, of Nampa, died Saturday, August 31, 1996, at a Nampa care center.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 1996, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa, with Fr. Alfred Puccinelli, S.M., as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
    Bernie was born on February 11, 1912, at Madison, Wisconsin, to George and Bertha Soehnlein.  He was raised and received his education in Madison.
    Bernie married Odelia Pertzborn on July 2, 1933, at the Chicago World's Fair, and they made their home in Madison.  They moved to Richland, Washington, in 1944, where he worked at the Hanford Plant.  He retired from Hanford in 1970, and in 1972 they moved to Meridian.  They came to Nampa in 1986, where they made their home.  Odelia died in October of 1989, and he has resided in Nampa since.  Bernie was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nampa.
    He is survived by one son, Jerry and Carolyn Soehnlein, Shelton, Washington; three daughters, Jean and Ken Haugh, Snohomish, Washington, Jean and Bud Painter, Nampa, Joyce Ross, Seattle, Washington; one sister, Josephine "Honey" McCutchin, Madison, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
    Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, six brothers, one sister and two great-grandchildren.
    Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 1 to 6 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon.
    The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Sunny Ridge Manor.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Paul's School, 1515 8th St. S. Nampa, Idaho 83651, or to the Sunny Ridge Health Services Center, 2609 Sunnybrook Dr., Nampa, Idaho 83686.
