Velma Hammons

    Services for Velma L. Hammons, 82, of Caldwell, who died Wednesday, Sept. 23, at home of natural causes, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
    Father Donald Lopes and the Rev. John Farner of St. David's Episcopal Church, Caldwell, will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Wilder Cemetery.
    Mrs. Hammons was born March 11, 1905, at Downing, Mo., to Raymond and Molly Shelton Ware.  She came to the Parma area as a child and attended school at the Island School near Parma.
    She married, Oscar Hammons in 1922 at Parma.  They lived in the Wilder area, where he was a ditch rider and farmed. He died Jan. 11, 1973.
    Her hobby was making afghans for family members.
    She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene M. and John Way of Caldwell and M. Maxine and Lee Bowman of Vallejo, Calif.; five sons and daughters-in-law, Edward L. and Helen Hammons and J. Larry and Janet Hammons, all of Caldwell, Eugene O. and Ruth Hammons of Wilder, Virgil L. and Nancy Hammons of Fruitland, and M. Garry and Urte Hammons of Nyssa, Ore.; a brother, Earl Ware of Boise; four sisters, Verlee Bush of Nyssa. Ore., Edna Trunnell of Ontario, Ore., Marjorie Peterson of Memphis, Mo., and Marie Henley of Caldwell; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by two granddaughters.
    Memorials may be made to the West Valley Medical Center Hospice Program, in care of Dakan Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 1386, Caldwell 83606.
    Friends may call at the Caldwell Dakan Funeral Chapel today from 4 to 8p.m.
