Stella A.
Carpenter, 98, of Caldwell, formally of Wilder, departed this
life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at a
Caldwell hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Monday, Dec. 1, at Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Interment
will be at Wilder Cemetery.
Stella was born July 27, 1905, at Gate, Okla., to Frank and
Mary Hanzl, the youngest of seven children. She grew up on the
family homestead in Oklahoma. On May 20, 1925, she was married
to Harold W. Carpenter. They continued living and farmed in
Oklahoma during the "dust-bowl" days until 1935, when they
moved to Wilder. They settled on a farm in the Fargo community
southwest of
Wilder and continued farming until their retirement.
Due to advancing years and health concerns, Stella and Harold
moved to Autumn Winds assisted living facility in Caldwell in
1998. Her beloved husband, Harold, passed away on May 10,
2000. Stella continued to live at Autumn Winds up to the date
of her death.
In addition to the regular duties as a farm housewife, Stella
had a few hobbies of her own. Her vegetable garden and flower
garden were her pride and joy. She grew beautiful roses and
irises. Another activity that she enjoyed and took pride in
was crocheting. Many of her hand-crocheted doilies were
exhibited at the Owyhee Fair in Homedale. Needless to say, she
won many Blue Ribbons for her work.
Stella taught a Sunday school class at the Fargo Community
Church for many years. Many of the children that came up
through her class on their way to adulthood continue to
remember and live by the lessons they learned.
Stella was a good neighbor, always willing to lend a helping
hand to those in need. She also loved to travel, taking many
trips to Southern California where she had relatives. Of
special interest to her was one trip on which she and Harold
made a side trip to visit Roy Rogers Museum at Victorville,
CA. In 1979 she was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of
visiting Hawaii.
Many of Stella's attributes have been reflected in her
children and grandchildren, as they looked to her as a role
model.
Stella is survived by three daughters, Lorene, Mrs. Ralph Cornwell,
of Boise, Dolores, Mrs. Sid Harris, of Caldwell, and Gloria,
Mrs. Kay Ferrenburg, of Eugene, Ore.; nine grandchildren; 22
great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-
grandchildren. In addition numerous nieces, nephews and a host
of friends survive to remember Stella.
She was preceded in death by twin daughters, a
great-granddaughter, a brother and five sisters. |
