Robert "Carl" Huffer, 93, of
Caldwell, died Friday, January 3, 1997, at home. Memorial
services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8,
1997, at the Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church in Parma.
Rev. David Kegley will officiate. Private inurnment will
precede the services in Parma Cemetery. Services are under
the direction Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Carl was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Hamburg, Iowa, to John and
Nola Huffer. In 1915, he moved to Akron, Colorado, where he
finished his education and then immediately taught school for
two years. He then returned to Iowa to work for Swift and Co.
and was transferred to Caldwell in 1926. He married Doris M.
Fenrich in 1928. Carl then worked at Caldwell Ice and Cold
Storage until 1943 when he and his family moved to Parma where
he was a partner in the Parma Hardware for 10 years. In 1955
he went to work for the Postal Service until he retired in
1972. In 1978 he moved back to Caldwell.
Carl and Doris spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona, for 12
years. He also enjoyed traveling, bowling, camping and golf.
Carl was a member of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Church. He
was the Parma chairman of the American Red Cross and assistant
Boy Scout Master for several years. He was also a life member
of the Caldwell Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Caldwell; a son, Ron
and his wife, Betty of Chelan, Wash., a daughter, Roberta
Bittick and her husband, Ken of Salmon, Idaho; 14
grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 3
brothers, one son, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
