Robert A. Johnson, 84, of Parma,
passed away of natural causes, Saturday, October 14, 1995, in
a Nampa nursing home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 1995,
at the Kirkpatrick
Memorial
Community
Church, Parma. Rev. David Kegley and Rev. Dr. Ralph
Marshall will officiate. Burial
will be in the
Parma Cemetery. Arrangements are under the
direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Robert was born Sept. 21, 1911, at Parma, a son of E. G.
Johnson and Ona Albertson Johnson.
He was raised in
Parma and graduated from the University of Washington in 1934, with a degree in
Business Administration, majoring in wholesaling.
He was employed by
McKesson-Robbins Wholesale Drug in Denver,
Colorado, until 1937, then he was transferred to
its branch in Seattle, WA.
In 1940, Robert
returned home where he joined his father and his brother,
Sterling, in the farming and
produce-shipping business, the S. E. Johnson Co.
In 1944, the company
initiated the first crop-dusting business in
Parma.
On
January 31, 1943, Bob married Louise Bales of Caldwell.
The couple have felt
so fortunate to have over 52 wonderful years together.
To this union, a son
and daughter, Roberta Louise and Gary William, were born.
Robert was
a member of the Kirkpatrick Memorial Community
Church, serving as elder
and deacon and was a faithful choir member for many years.
He was a member of
Parma Lodge #49 AF and AM; Scottish Rite; El Korah Shrine; and
the Royal Order of Jesters.
His
community contributions include three years on the Parma City
Council; was engaged on the Parma Farm Labor Board at the time
the farmers were building a labor camp for the migrant help;
served five years on the Malheur Hospital Board; and a
longstanding member of the Farmer's Cooperative Ditch Board.
He was a member of the
Idaho-Oregon Fruit and Vegetable Association throughout his
business career.
Since the early 1970s Robert served on the
Whittenberger Foundation of Caldwell
and the Board of Governors of the
Shriners
Hospital for Crippled Children, Portland, Oregon.
In his later years he
became an emeritus member of both boards.
Bob
was known for his warm and generous heart to all.
He loved being with
his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Survivors
include his wife, Louise, of Parma; a daughter, Bobbie Lou
Johnson, of Parma; a son, Gary Johnson, of Nampa; a brother,
Charles E. Johnson, and wife, Lois, of Parma; sister-in-law,
Dorothy Johnson; sister-in-law, Lucille Clark, and husband,
Hilton, of Vale, OR; two grandsons, Andrew Robert and Nicklaus
Howard Johnson of McCall; several nieces and nephews and other
dear relatives and friends.
He
was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sterling
E. Johnson.
