Richard C. "Rick" Hawthorne

    Richard C. "Rick" Hawthorne, 47, of Nampa, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at a Boise hospital, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
    Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 20, at the Nampa Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 3001 12th Ave. Rd.  The Rev. Michael Howard, pastor of the Open Door, will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
    Rick was born February 5, 1949 at Minot. N.D., to Clarence and Glendeva Sauby Hawthorne.  He was reared and educated in Voltaire and Bergen, N.D., and graduated from high school in Velva, N.D.  He then attended the School of Forestry in Bottineau, N.D.  After his schooling, he moved to Cypress, Calif., and went to work for Western Digital.  He married Elvia Matas on September 16, 1967 in Cypress.  They moved to Garden Grove, Calif., where he worked for the Rockwell Corporation.  He later moved to Pocatello and went to work for A.M.I.  In 1979, they came to Nampa, and he went to work for Zilog as an engineer.  He later went to work for Micron in Boise, as an engineer in the research and Development Dept., where he was currently employed.
    Rick was a Karate instructor, and was selected to go to the 1968 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, with the Tae Kwon Do Demonstration Team.  He was a member of the MOPARS Unlimited of Idaho, and had been a member of the Ventures Motorcycle Club in Caldwell.  He was also a member of the Harley Owners Group in Boise.  He loved the outdoors, and enjoyed camping, fishing, and scuba diving.  On weekends, he loved working on their cabin near Brownlee.
    Rick is survived by his wife, Elvia, of Nampa; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Rob" and Trina Hawthorne, Nampa; one daughter, Luana Hawthorne, Nampa; one sister, Jane Grunseth, Velva, N.D.; two grandchildren, Devin Hawthorne, and Aliah Hawthorne, Nampa; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Joycelyn Torgerson.
    The family suggests memorials to the  St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center, Intensive Care Unit, 1055 N. Curtis Rd., Boise, ID 83706.
    Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Friday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
