Ruth B. Garrity, 88, of Nampa, died Tuesday, March 23,
2008 at Streamside Assisted Living in Nampa.
Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday,
March 28, 2010 at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel. Mass
of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday,
March 29, 2010 at the St. Paul's Catholic Church, Nampa.
Burial will follow in the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
Ruth was born in Kennewick, Wash. on April 29, 1921 to
David and Mary Schuster Beinhart.
She grew up on the family farm along the Columbia River and in
town, where her father was a bricklayer and businessman. She
graduated from Kennewick High School in 1939 and entered
Registered Nurses training at Pasco Hospital and Sacred Heart
Hospital in Spokane. During World War II, she was commissioned
in the U.S. Army and was originally stationed at Camp Hahn in
California. She later saw duty as a nurse in England, France,
and Germany. She was always very proud of that service. After
her discharge, she worked as a nurse with a private care
physician in Kennewick. In October 1953, she married John W.
Garrity, a Nampa attorney. She was the daughter-in-law of Earl
and Martha Garrity, who were prominent figures in the Nampa
community and in the leadership of the Snake River Stampede.
Ruth continued her career as a nurse and homemaker in various
locations in the Pacific Northwest and Canada before returning
to the Boise Valley with John and her two children in 1967.
They lived in Homedale and she worked for 12 years at the
Idaho State School and Hospital. After retirement and her
husband's death, she moved to Nampa to be close to family and
old friends. She was very active St. Paul's Catholic Church
and became one of Nampa's most respected senior volunteers,
serving for many years in the Gift Shop at Mercy Medical
Center. In addition to her community service and professional
diligence, Ruth was known particularly for her quiet,
mischievous, and intelligent sense of humor. She put those
around her at ease and made the best of the world as she found
it. She never left a job or neighborhood without being
actively missed. Her faith was a great consolation.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister
Anna Marie Schaffer, her half brother Orin Beinhart, her half
sister Margaret-Reece Brunton, her husband, John, and her son,
Tim.
She is survived by her son Patrick, her niece Jo
Schaffer, and many cousins from the Garrity, Schuster, Walker
and Robinson families. . The family wishes to express their
appreciation for the loving care and family atmosphere
provided for Ruth by the fine staff at Streamside Assisted
Living.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her
memory be made to St. Paul's Educational Foundation or St.
Paul's Church Building on Faith fund. |
