Phoebe Hirst

    Phoebe Mary "Marie" Pressnall Hirst, 93 of Hayden Lake, formerly of Greenleaf, died Tuesday, October 4, 1994, at her home of natural causes.  Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, October 10, 1994, at the Greenleaf Cemetery.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenleaf Friends Church.  Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
    Mrs. Hirst, or Grandma 'Re as she was known to so many, was born November 24, 1900, in Allen, Nebraska, the daughter of Milton Otto and Evalina Tuning Pressnall, the third of five children.  In 1904, the Pressnall family left Allen, Nebraska for Wenatchee, Washington, going up the Columbia River by boat to Entiat where they purchased a homestead.  In 1918, the Pressnall family returned to Nebraska and worked in the Nebraska Central College while their children attended school.  In 1919 they moved to Greenleaf, Idaho to farm.
    Marie married Edwin Claude Hirst of Denver, Colorado, March 7, 1919 at the Nebraska Central College.  Homer J . Coppock, retiring college president, performed the ceremony and the new couple then joined the Pressnall family in Idaho.  
    Mrs. Hirst enjoyed participating in the Greenleaf Quilting Club and making quilts for the Greenleaf Friends Academy auction, for the church and for missionaries and other Christian causes.
    Surviving is a sister, Orpha Cammack of Salem, OR.; two daughters, lverna Hibbs of Greenleaf and Willa Piersall and her husband, Wayne, of Hayden Lake, seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Lulu Pressnall and Veva Gehrke, a son-in-law, Leland Hibbs, and a brother, Wilbur Pressnall.
    Her family requests that memorials be made to the Greenleaf Friends Academy.
    Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
