Oscar Kandler

    Graveside services for Oscar Max Kandler, 88, of the Glenns Ferry area, and formerly of the Big Bend, Wilder and Dixie areas, who died Monday, Nov. 10, in a Mountain Home nursing home, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Roswell Cemetery.                            
    The Rev. Virgil Saltz of the Roswell Baptist Church will officiate, under the direction of the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.  Mr. Kandler was born Dec. 8, 1897, at Cozad, Neb., to Oscar and Malvina Tracey Kandler.  He was reared and educated in Dawson County, Neb.
    He married Violet Dovie Sanford Jan. 7, 1930, at Northplatt, Neb.  They farmed with his father and brothers until 1940.  They then moved to the Big Bend community, where he continued farming.  Mrs. Kandler died in January 1948.
    He sold the farm in 1958 and moved to the Wilder area, where he worked for 10 years.  Then he moved to the Dixie area, where he lived with one of his sons.  Later he moved to the Glenns Ferry area to live with another son.  
    He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and visiting with his friends and neighbors.  He attended the Roswell Baptist Church for many years.  He is survived by three sons, Alfred Kandler of Caldwell, Jake Kandler of Boise, and John Kandler of Glenns Ferry; three; daughters. Malvina Stephenson of Lewiston, Mary Ann Carter of Twin Falls, and Tavie Kandler of Mountain Home; a sister, Myrtle Zimmerman of Parma ; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    He was preceded in death by three sisters, two brothers, a half brother, and a grandson.
    Friends may call at the Caldwell Flahiff chapel Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
