Leonard
Goodson, age 79, of Cove, Oregon, died Tuesday, May 24, 1994,
at the Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande, Oregon.
Services for Mr. Goodson will be held on Friday, May 27,
1994, at 9:30 a.m. at Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel with The
Rev. Gerry Etchison of the Cove United Methodist Church
officiating. Concluding services and interment will follow at
3:30 M.D.T. (2:30 P.D.T) at the Ten Davis Cemetery near Parma,
Idaho.
Mr. Goodson was born on July 26, 1914, the son of Samuel
and Lillian Mae (Carson) Goodson in Notus, Idaho. He attended
Ten Davis Grade School, Parma High School and Boise Barber
College. He barbered until he was needed back at the family
farm in the Ten Davis area. On February 15, 1942 he was
married to Arleen Marie Obendorf in Roswell, Idaho. In 1946
they moved from the family farm to Cove, Oregon, where they
purchased the John Dean property. He drove school bus for 29
years for the Cove School District until 1979. He continued
farming until retiring in 1988.
Mr. Goodson attended the Cove United Methodist Church. He
was a member of Cove Lodge #91 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons,
where he served as Worshipful Master three times. He also
belonged to the Grande Ronde Valley Chapter #20 Royal Arch
Masons, Eastern Oregon Commandary #6 Knights Templar, Al Kader
Temple Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine
and the Union County Shrine Club, Cherry Chapter #I77 Order of
Eastern Star, where he was a past Worthy Patron of the Mt.
Fannie Grange. He was a member and past president of the Cove
Sportsman Club, the South 40 Club and the Cove Rooster Club.
Mr. Goodson enjoyed his granddaughters and hunting and
fishing. He was very active with community and school
activities and sports events. For many years he timed all
sports events. In appreciation the school district named the
athletic field The Goodson Field after Leonard and his
supportive wife, Arleen.
Survivors include his wife, Arleen Goodson of Cove;
daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn Leonore and Jack Turner of
Baker City, Oregon; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Lynne
and Ladd McKittrick of Hayward, California; granddaughters,
Heather Turner of Hayward, California and Chandra Turner of La
Grande; brother, Edward H. Goodson of Parma, Idaho; sister,
Hazel Winans of Twin Falls, Idaho; nieces, nephews and other
relatives and friends. |
