Lela May
Holton, 97 of Caldwell, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 1989, at a
Caldwell nursing home. Graveside services will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 1989, at the Greenleaf Cemetery,
with memorial services following at 11 a.m. at the Greenleaf
Friends Church. Pastor Don Lamm of the Greenleaf Friends
Church will officiate. Services are under the direction
of the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell.
Mrs. Holton was born March 31, 1892, at Amboy, Ind., to
Alonzo and Carrie Richardson Lamm. She was raised in
Indiana and Kansas later moving with her family to Oklahoma.
She married Myron Holton, April, 2, 1910, at Gate, Okla.
They lived in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri before coming to
the Boise Valley in 1920. They moved to the Willamette
Valley in Oregon where they lived for a time later returning
to Idaho, settling in Greenleaf in 1943. Mr. Holton died
July 8, 1965.
Mrs. Holton was a devoted grandmother and was proud that she
remembered each of her 169 grandchildren's birthdays.
She was a faithful and devout Quaker and attended the
Greenleaf Friends Church.
Mrs. Holton is survived by four sons, Virgil Holton of
Homedale, Herbert Holton of Sumpter, Ore., Laurence Holton of
Caldwell and Harold Holton of Rupert; seven daughters,
Gertrude Curts of Newberg, Ore., Ruby Gould of Nampa, Opal
Martin of Vale, Oregon, Ruth Hull of Caldwell, Martha Emry of
Homedale, Virgie Robertson of Denver and Lillian Sheirbon of
Kuna; a brother, Paul Lamm of LaGrande, Ore.; 42
grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren and 30
great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Cecil and Herschel,
four grandsons and two brothers.
Mrs. Holton's family suggests that memorials be made in her
name to the Greenleaf Friends Academy.
Friends may call at the Dakan Funeral Chapel from 3 to 8 p.m.
