John Garmendia

     Rosary Devotions for John Garmendia, 86, of Nampa, who died Friday, March 20, at his home, will be recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Alsip Funeral Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Nampa, with Father Merle J. Fisher, S.M., as celebrant.  Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Nampa.
     Mr. Garmendia was born June 24, 1900, at Marquina, Viscaya, Spain, where he was reared and educated.  He served in the Spanish Navy.  In 1925 he moved to the United States.  He worked as a sheep herder for several years.  In 1936 he went to work at the Union Pacific Fruit Express shops in Nampa, retiring in 1965.
     Since 1976 he had made his home near his niece and family, Bibiana and Vic Hillyard.
     He was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks Union.
     He is survived by several nieces and nephews in Spain and the U.S. including Bibiana Hillyard and Raymond Garmendia, both of Nampa, Josephine Marts of Meridian, John Garmendia of Mountain Home, and Louis Garmendia of Lewiston.
