Jay Helderman

Jay J. Helderman, 84, of Caldwell, died Wednesday, February 2, 1994, at a Nampa care center.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 7, 1994, at Dakan Funeral Chapel, Parma.  Pastor Mark Roberts of Greenleaf will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Parma Cemetery.
Mr. Helderman was born October 30, 1909, at Bloomfield, Missouri, to Harvey and Laura E. Helderman.  He was raised in Missouri and moved with his family to Richfield, Idaho, at the age of 17.  They later moved to the Boise Valley. Mr. Helderman farmed and sold real estate in the Central Cove community from 1944 to 1951 and married Elsie Ernstrom, October 27, 1949, at Ogden, Utah.  He farmed in the Big Bend community near Parma and later moved to Huston, Idaho, where he continued to sell real estate until his retirement in 1984.
Even though Mr. and Mrs. Helderman had no children of their own, they were devoted parents to many foster children over the years.
Mr. Helderman was an avid reader and student of history.  He loved fishing and the outdoors and would always care for stray animals.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie of Nampa; three sisters, Mildred Keck of Boise, Tavie Hendricks of Nampa and Lottie Allensworth of Advance, Missouri; a brother, Jim Helderman of Meridian; two foster children, Maria and Sherrie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
His family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
Friends may call at the Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, from 2 to 8 p.m. today.
