Graveside services for Henry
Lee Hughes, 56, Nampa, who died Thursday, Oct. 4, at a Nampa
hospital of natural causes, will be conducted at 1 p.m.,
Tuesday at the Melba Cemetery.
Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Services and
interment are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel,
Nampa.
He was born Feb. 28, 1928 at Sid, Okla., to Harry and
Viola Hughes. He was reared and educated in Oklahoma. After
his schooling, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the
Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1953.
He married Shirley Hoagland on June 27, 1953 in
Winnemucca, Nev., and they moved to Melba where they farmed.
While in Melba, he was a ditch rider for the irrigation
district, he owned and operated a welding shop for several
years, drove school bus for the Melba schools and contracted
the Melba Star Route as the mail carrier in 1975.
He married Verlie Shields on Dec. 23, 1978 in Elko, Nev.
In 1981, they moved from Melba to Elko where he worked in the
Freeport Gold Mine. They moved to Nampa earlier this year and
he was employed by the Ferry-Morris Seed Co.
He was a member of the Melba Divin-Sloneker American
Legion Post and a member of the Sagebrush Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife of Nampa; two daughters, Marcia
Platz, Emmett and Loretta Hughes, Melba; two sons, Delwyn
Hughes, Homedale and Benjie Hughes, Melba; two step-daughters,
Susan Pline, Melba and Margaret Shields, Reno, Nev.; one
brother, Art Hughes, Caldwell; two sisters, Hazel Kirby, Eucha,
Okla., and Ruth Sissons, Colcord, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Melba
Quick Response Unit.
Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel today from 5
p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. |
