Harry F. Carpenter Sr.
    Harry Fay Carpenter died of natural causes on April 28, 2009 in Caldwell. Born on Nov. 5, 1912, his 96 years were a gift to us all and his presence will be forever missed. He lived a full and enjoyable life.
    Born to Cornelius Ernestus and Edith Francis Wilmot Carpenter in Rosston, Okla., Harry was the seventh of eight children. He spent his early years on his parents' farm in Harper County, Oklahoma. He left school after the eighth grade to help support his family and worked for a short time in the oil fields in Texas and later as a laborer on farms closer to home.
    In 1931 he met and married Edna Faye Bossart in Laverne, Oklahoma where they lived until 1933. They left Oklahoma during the depression in a Model-T Ford and traveled to Colorado where they stayed with relatives for a short time until they finally ended up in the Fargo area near Wilder. Harry worked and farmed in Fargo and as World War II began, he worked as a Fieldman for a corn canning operation in Wilder. When the war ended, he moved his family to Caldwell where he worked for the Dairymen's Cooperative Creamery, Canyon County road maintenance and later for the J.R. Simplot Company. Prior to his retirement in 1974, Harry worked as a superintendent for Lamb-Weston Foods in North Dakota and later in American Falls, Idaho.
    Life was not just filled with work. Harry and Edna enjoyed fishing and traveling which took them to nearly every western state, Alaska and parts of Europe. Winters in Arizona allowed them to explore and enjoy the deserts of the southwest and the highways and byways between Idaho and there.
    Harry was an active member of Wilder Lodge #83 AF&AM in the 1950's and also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Boise.
    He was preceded in death by Edna, his wife of 73 years and three of their children, Harry Fay Jr., Harriet Mae and Bobby. He is survived by two daughters, Beverly (Albert) Ledbetter of Blackfoot, Idaho and Patricia (Martin) Galvin of Middleton; two sons, Melvin (Doris Redelius) Carpenter of Reno, Nevada and Bill (Sylvia Walberg) Carpenter of Ennis, Montana; one brother; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
    His winning smile and handsome face were what made you notice; his warm heart, friendliness and good common sense were what you remembered. Loved and respected by family and friends, Harry was a good man and he set a good example. He will be missed. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, May 13th at the Wilder Cemetery, Wilder, Idaho.
