Forest
“Windy” Martin, 80, of Parma, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at
a Nampa care center of natural causes. Forest will be laid to
rest with graveside services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at
Parma Cemetery, Parma. Rev. Marjorie Godfrey-Lane with Bringer
of Light Ministries will officiate. Services are under the
direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Parma.
Forest was born March 27, 1922, at Greenwood, Neb., to Lee
and Minnie Mae Gibbs (sic) Martin. He spent his early years in
Kansas before moving to Idaho with his family to homestead in
the Parma area. Forest married Loretta May Biggs in 1948 with
whom he shared four children. He later married Carolyn Burnett
in 1974.
Forest went to work for Morrison-Knudsen where he assisted in the
building projects of various dams. He also had the privilege
of being one of the crewmen that helped rebuild Pearl Harbor
after it was attacked. Forest settled with his family in Parma
where he became a landlord. Local residents fondly referred to
him as “Windy” or “Grandpa.”
Forest loved his garden and would proudly “show off” his
flowers and vegetables to anyone who would come by. He also
loved spending time in the mountains and camping with his
family. He was a teacher of wisdom. Forest will be greatly
missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn; two sons, Donald and Gene; two
daughters, Susan and Linda; a brother, Richard “Tobe” Martin
of Nampa; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a
sister.
Friends may call this evening from 7 to 9 at Dakan Chapel in Parma. |
