Funeral
services for Estel Hoskins, 89, Caldwell Route 4, who died
Saturday in an Idaho Falls rest home, will be conducted at
2:30 p.m. Wednesday, in Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell, by
the Rev. James McMillan of Chewelah, Wash. Interment
will follow in the Greenleaf Cemetery.
She was born April 12, 1893, at Superior, Neb., to William
and Elja Puntenay Claybaugh. She moved with her family
to Southwick, Idaho in 1900, and later to Philomath, Ore.,
where she attended high school and later, Normal School at
Monmouth, Ore. Following her schooling, she taught
school for three years. She married Hugh Hoskins, on
Nov. 25, 1916, at Coquille, Ore. The couple moved to the
Sunny Slope area near Caldwell in 1917 where they owned a
operated a fruit ranch for many years. She was well
known for her book reviews and reading. Her husband died
in Oct. of 1981. She was a member of Deer Flat Free
Methodist Church in rural Caldwell, and of the Womens
Christian Temperance Union.
She is survived by a son, Harold Hoskins, of Sunny Slope; a
daughter, Helen Burkhalter, of Idaho Falls; six grandchildren
and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at the Flahiff Funeral Chapel, Caldwell,
today from 5 until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m.
Memorials may be given to the Deer Flat Free Methodist
Church, Caldwell. |
