Donald R. Girven

Donald R. Girven, 64, of Nampa, passed away Friday, January 10, 1997, at his home after a long illness.  Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 1997, at Alsip Funeral Chapel in Nampa.  Bishop Erick Wadsworth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Melba Cemetery.
Don was born September 19, 1932, in Bozeman, Montana, to Donald C. Girven and Mae Hallford Girven. He attended schools in Bozeman and graduated from Bozeman High School in 1951.  He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952 and served for four years.  He married Charlotte Fry on June 9, 1956, in Livingston, Montana.  After their marriage, Don and Charlotte lived in Bozeman for a short time and then moved to Nampa where Don was employed by the Amalgamated Sugar Company.  In 1968, Amalgamated Sugar transferred Don to Des Moines, Iowa, to be in charge of their liquid sugar operations in the area.  In 1969, he became the plant manager for their liquid sugar plant in Kansas City, Kansas.  However, the mountains of the Northwest constantly beckoned and Don and Charlotte returned to Nampa in 1972 and Don began working construction for Nay and Wheeler Construction Company.  Later, he went into business for himself and worked in partnership with Jerry Van Gerpen.  He retired in 1995 due to ill health.
Don was a member of the 15th Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and a volunteer for Upper Deer Flat Fire Department, serving as one of their Commissioners.  He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and camping with his friends. One of his greatest pleasures was cooking a meal with his dutch oven and sitting around a campfire eating, laughing and talking.  He was a wonderful husband and friend and will be greatly missed.
Don is survived by his wife Charlotte of Nampa, one brother Owen and his wife Laura of Condon, Montana; his nephews Alan and Chris Girven and nieces Anita Pederson and Cody Blaine; his aunts Bessie Roth of Belgrade, Montana and Marguerite Joppi of Bear Lake, Michigan; and one uncle Sidney Girven of Bear Lake, Michigan as well as several cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family suggested memorial contributions be made to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, 308 E. Hawaii, Nampa, ID 83686, the American Cancer Society, PO Box 5386, Boise, ID 83705 or Mercy Hospice 1512 12 Ave. Rd., Nampa, ID 83686 or flowers may be sent.
Friends may call on day, January 13, 1997, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
