Parma Youth Dies
Of Suffocation
At Home Monday

PARMA - A 15-year-old farm youth was suffocated yesterday when a stack of chopped hay collapsed on him at his home.
Dean Smalley was pronounced dead by a doctor after being dug out from under approximately a ton of hay.  Coroner William D. Talley said young Smalley had apparently been digging hay from the bottom of a high stack when the top of it slid and fell onto him.
Mrs. Waldo Smith, the boy's mother, was quoted as saying she looked out the window and saw Smalley feeding the cows.  A few minutes later she noticed that the stack had fallen, the coroner said.  Mrs. Smith called two neighbors, Charley Smith and Teddy Miller, who dug the boy out.
             Death Accidental
Coroner Talley termed the death an accident, and said no inquest will be held.
Young Smalley was born Dec. 4, 1934 at Caldwell, and was a Parma high school freshman.  He was a member of the FFA and the Apple Valley Methodist church.
                    Survivors

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith of Parma; a sister, Eloise, and a brother, Rober, both of Parma; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Smalley of Nampa, and a number of uncles and aunts, including Glen Weed, Mrs. Elizabeth Grimes and Mrs. Mary Nichols all of Caldwell.
The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the Parma Community church.  Dr. H. G. McAllister of Boise and the Rev. Ray Thomas will officiate, and burial will be at Parma.
