Donald
L. Hasselbring, 67, of Melba, died Wednesday, February 21,
1996, at his home of cancer. Funeral services will be
conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 1996, at the
Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa. Richard Cox, Chaplain of Life's
Doors Hospice in Boise will officiate. Interment will follow
in the Melba Cemetery.
Donald L. Hasselbring was born on August 12, 1928, at
Alexandria, Nebraska, to Louie and Vera Parker Hasselbring.
In 1936 he moved to Idaho with his family and settled in the
Deer Flat area. He attended Scism and Kuna schools and
graduated from Nampa High School in 1946. After his
schooling, he farmed with his father. He then entered the
U.S. Navy and served for 2 years. He was honorably discharged
and returned to the Treasure Valley.
In 1948 he went to work as an apprentice carpenter and
built several homes in the Nampa area. He married Ruby Stokes
in November of 1948 in Winnemucca, Nevada, and they raised 5
wonderful children. Ruby and Don made their home in Boise. In
1949 he went to work for the Mt. States Telephone Co. as a
lineman. He retired from the phone company as the Dist.
Construction Manager for the State of Idaho in 1983, after 35
years. Ruby and Don were divorced after 41 years of marriage.
He married Martha Graham on January 7, 1992, in Lake Tahoe
and they have resided in Melba since.
Don loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping, and
especially Silver City and Owyhee County. He enjoyed
traveling in the motorhome, woodworking and small engine
repair. One of his greatest loves was watching his children
and his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of Melba; 3 sons and
daughters- in-law, Terry and Mary Hasselbring, Boise, Rob and
Carrie Hasselbring, Blackfoot, Mark and Vicky Hasselbring,
Twin Falls; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Debby and Terry Hall,
Melba, Leslie and Lamar Harris, Melba; a stepdaughter, Vicki
Stimpson and her husband, Norris, Kuna; a stepson, Craig
Graham and his wife Linda, Murphy; 2 sisters, Ona Shearer and
her husband George, Nampa, Dorothy Nelson and her husband Don,
Boise; his mother-in-law, Thelma Hilton, Nampa; an aunt, Ethel
Parker, Nampa; 10 grandchildren, Cody Harris, Kelly Harris,
Drew Harris, LesAnn Harris, West Harris, Cecily Phillips,
Christopher Highbarger, April Hasselbring, Andy Hasselbring
and Jenny Hasselbring; 2 great-grandchildren, Jackie Phillips
and Luke Keefe; numerous stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren;
and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Wanda
Blunk; and 1 granddaughter, Sarah Hasselbring.
Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on today from
5 to 9 p.m.
