The original purpose of this work was to index the marriage records of Page County, Iowa for genealogical research. As the work progressed it seemed unfortunate not to include a bit of the color, statistic, history and background of these marriages.
The stories which have been copied from various sources, are included as a tribute to those who came to the Iowa Territory, preserved and survived to establish homes, churches, schools, rear families, build roads, bridges, courthouses, parks, and many other facilities which we presently enjoy.
Their are some 1,061 marriage records listed, which most have been
compiled by BARBARA HARTMAN, from the Clarinda Public Library, which
she published in various volumes of the 1976-1982

These records are NOT a completes list of ALL marriages from 1850 to 1899, but only the ones recorded in this database.
