History of Waupaca County, WI. - 1881
Samuel Pinkerton, a Farmer, P.O. Waupaca, Section 21, Waupaca Twp. was born in Ireland Jan 1, 1803. His early life was on a farm. His father rented a small piece of land and upon that his family eked out an existence. On April 10, 1841 he married Mary WARNOCK, she was born in 1809. In 1847, Mr Pinkerton with his wife and three children, set out for America and landed in New York. He remained in Washington Co., NY for six years, [1847 to 1853] having hired out upon a farm to earn a support for his young family. In 1853 he came to Waupaca and settled on his present place. He had means to buy one forty of land and pre-empted a quarter section. He at once erected a log house and commenced to carve out a home. He now ownes with his son John, now at home, 640 acres of land, 280 acres being in the homestead. At the time he came there was one little log store kept in Waupaca, run by Mr. HOLT.
He has been Supervisor severeal times, but never wanted to be bothered with offices. His son, John who is at home and superintends the farm, is Chairman of the town, and has been for several yeqrs. Mr PINKERTON has reared a large family of children who have become respected and influential citizens. He has striven zealously to educate them, two of whom have graduated from seminaries and colleges.

" Samuel,1 PINKERTON was the youngest of six brothers (5?) and one sister. He came to Hartford, NY in 1847 or 46 to improve financially. Son ROBERT was 5 and son JOHN was 1 year old. Samuel,1 PINKERTON was a weaver and tenant farmer in Ireland to which they had previously immigrated. Here he could acquire 240 acres. He became a farm hand in Washington Co., NY. and sent for his family in 1848. He employed there for 6 or 4 years. One source says he went to Canada first, but did not like it there. He traveled to Chicago, then Milwaukee and finally by team to Indian country in Waupaca. In 1858 they moved to Waupaca, WI settling on Section 21 in Waupaca Twp. He built a log house and eventually his acreage was up to 400. He was a republican, a member of the Reformed Presbyterian Church, and he was town supervisor, holding other offices as well. He is written up in the Commemorative Book Pages 805-6 & 811. May have been born in 1891. He and his sons attended the Vernon Reformed Presbyterian Church. They "transferred" from the Presbyterian Church of Argyle in New York, Washington Co. latter known as the West Hebron Church. He also lived with his son JOHN who I assume he attended church with. Wife MARY (WARNOCK) PINKERTON's of Scotch descent family were weavers and farmers. She came from Galloway/Galaway, Ireland to New York in 1847 and to Waupaca in 1858 with her husband.
Her mother died young, but her father reached a ripe old age. their were seven children of the WARNOCKS ROBERT; JAMES; JOHN; WILLIAM; MARY and SARAH all came to America and located in New York. MARY (WARNOCK) PINKERTON and sister SARAH (WARNOCK) ANDERSON afterward removed to Waupaca, Wisc."

Samuel,1 PINKERTON, was raised to manhood, upon the family farm in Ballymony, County of Antrim, Ireland, educated in the common schools and learned the trade of a Weaver. [REF:#37.] Samuel,1 PINKERTON and MARY (WARNOCK) PINKERTON were married and lived in Ballymony, Ireland, where their first three children were born.

Based on 3rd child being born in Ireland in 1845 and 4th child being born in New York, 1848 would make you believe Samuel,1 PINKERTON, and family emigrated to America, some time between 1845-48 but the record [REF: #43] of Samuel,1 PINKERTON, 24 Aug. 1852 Declaration of Intention for United States Citizenship list he emigrated to New York on June 1837 ?, some ten years earlier, this needs more research

We known that the first three children came over with cousins on the Wolfsville in 1847. ROBERT, age 6; ELIZA, age 4 & JOHN, 2 PINKERTON, age 2 came to America on 09 May 1847, 4. accompaned by some of their Cousins: [REF:#4]
1.2.5.1 SAMUEL, 2 PINKERTON (oldest son of brother 1.2.5 JAMES, 1 PINKERTON)

1.2.4.1 WILLIAM, 1 PINKERTON (oldest son of brother 1.2.4 JOHN, 1 PINKERTON)
SAMUEL McALLISTER friend of the Pinkertons, and who several married in to the Pinkerton Family.

As per [REF:#3.] "they all lived first at Arygle, West Hebron, New York, where they found employment on a farm." but other source's (Census) list Hartford Twp., Washington County, New York) ..prs

1850 CENSUS FOR WASHINGTON COUNTY, NY:
[REF:#5] The first record found, is in the 1850 Census for Washington County, New York we find three PINKERTON family members, all "Labors", and all who could Read & Write. It's interesting to note that Samuel,1 PINKERTON, age 48 was listed as a "Laborer" in this 1850 Census, all his neighbors were listed as "Farmers", who "Owned" their Farms. Also why did the census taker Mr. A. F. HUTCHENS list son JOHN PINKERTON, attended school at the age of 4 years ? 5. Thus they became identified with the county when it was in the pioneer stage of its development. Waupaca Co., was only created in 1851 from the Territorial County. Waupaca Co. is located in the Southeastern part of the state, bounded on the North by Shawano Co.; West by Outagamie; South by Winnebago & Waupaca Counties; and on the West by Portage County.
