History of Waupaca County, WI. - 1881 | Samuel Pinkerton,
a Farmer, P.O. Waupaca, Section 21, Waupaca Twp. was born in Ireland Jan 1, 1803.
His early life was on a farm. His father rented a small piece of land and
upon that his family eked out an existence.
On April 10, 1841 he married Mary WARNOCK, she was
born in 1809. In 1847, Mr Pinkerton with his wife and three
children, set out for America and landed in New York.
He remained in Washington Co., NY for six years, [1847 to 1853] having hired out
upon a farm to earn a support for his young family.
In 1853 he came to Waupaca and settled on his present place. He had means
to buy one forty of land and pre-empted a quarter section. He
at once erected a log house and commenced to carve out a home.
He now ownes with his son John, now at home, 640 acres of
land, 280 acres being in the homestead. At the time he came
there was one little log store kept in Waupaca, run by Mr. HOLT. He has been Supervisor severeal times, but never wanted to be bothered with offices. His son, John who is at home and superintends the farm, is Chairman of the town, and has been for several yeqrs. Mr PINKERTON has reared a large family of children who have become respected and influential citizens. He has striven zealously to educate them, two of whom have graduated from seminaries and colleges. Source: From History of Northern Wisconsin 1881 <---[REF:#8] |
Samuel,1 PINKERTON, was raised to manhood, upon the family farm
in Ballymony, County of Antrim, Ireland, educated in the common schools
and learned the trade of a Weaver. [REF:#37.] Samuel,1 PINKERTON and
MARY (WARNOCK) PINKERTON were married and lived in Ballymony, Ireland,
where their first three children were born.
Based on 3rd child being born in Ireland in 1845 and 4th child being born in New York, 1848 would make you believe Samuel,1 PINKERTON, and family emigrated to America, some time between 1845-48 but the record [REF: #43] of Samuel,1 PINKERTON, 24 Aug. 1852 Declaration of Intention for United States Citizenship list he emigrated to New York on June 1837 ?, some ten years earlier, this needs more research
We known that the first three children came over with cousins on the
Wolfsville in 1847. ROBERT, age 6; ELIZA, age 4 & JOHN, 2 PINKERTON,
age 2 came to America on 09 May 1847, 4. accompaned by some of their
Cousins: [REF:#4] As per [REF:#3.] "they all lived first at Arygle, West Hebron, New York, where they found employment on a farm." but other source's (Census) list Hartford Twp., Washington County, New York) ..prs
