  "Catharine Tillman and all others in her family, at least in the Abbott branch spelled her name as Catharine, not Catherine. It does give a clue to her ancestry."
[REF:#2] List James ABBOTT as being born in SC., it is un-known if he ever lived in Orange Co., NC. where the TILLMAN's were in the 1700's. He would of been 19 years of age when the TILLMAN's arrived in Knox Co., TN. in 1795. There is a John ABBOTT on the 1755 Tax List for Orange Co., NC. There is a Thomas ABBOTT on the 1779 Tax List for Orange Co., NC. There is a John ABBOTT on the 1800 Census (M-32, Pg 542) 10010-00100-00 James and Catharine (TILLMAN) ABBOTT were married prior to 1805 as per: [REF:#2] "The 1805 immigrant group from Knox Co., TN. to Peble Co., OH. included over 30 persons. Tobias TILLMAN and wife Catharine SHARP TILLMAN brought all their children, including the four married daughters' and married son's spouses and children, as well as George Harless, Harvey Medlam, and members of the Myers and Albrecht [Albright] families." [REF:#2] [REF:#3] Gives marriage date as 14 Oct. 1800! James and Catharine (TILLMAN) ABBOTT owned property in OH. as per: [REF:#2] In 1810-13, John, 2 TILLMAN (the son of Tobias) acquired the western half of Section 3. Tobias TILLMAN purchased the northwest 1/4 of Section 23 and moved his family there. A blockhouse was located in Section 11. The sons-in-law's, Martin RICE, m. c180? in TN. to Dau: Unknown Alexander McNUTT, m. c1801 in TN. to Dau: Elizabeth TILLMAN Jacob LOY, m. c1805 in TN. to Dau: Phoebe TILLMAN James ABBOTT m. c1800 in TN. to Dau: Catharine TILLMAN each purchased property within a mile or so. About a third of the northeastern part of Preble County was owned by Tobias TILLMAN or his children.
