The United Missionary Church of Shambaugh, IA. was originally known as the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church It was founded in the 1883. The first Pastor was Rev. A.A. MILLER, who became paster of the church in 1946. (This 1946 date must not be correct ..prs) |
The church at first was located on the east side of the railroad tracks, just North of Bill BUNTING's property. (1976)
In Page Co., History - 1890 states: "Tne Minnonites heve two societies in Page Co., IA. holding services at two school houses, on in Harlan Twp. and one in Amity Twp. They number about 30 pearsons. They are non-resistant and take not part in politicts. They have similar belief to the Quarker-Baptist people.
About 1905, the Mennonite church was moved west where it now (1966) stands. The first parsonage was sold and moved betwen the EBERLY and John WILLIAMS's homes, but later burned. Rev. Ernest YOUNG, built the present (1976) parsonage.
The denominational name was changed to United Missionary Church in 1947. In the 1940's Mrs. Roy STARKEY organized the "Women's Missionary Society of the Shambaugh Church. Then in the mid 1950's Rev. Clayton EBY and the late Harold HAMILTON remodled the church. Rev. Lewis HUNTER is the present (1976) pastor.
The church has enjoyed many good revivals and many souls have been saved. In 1966 the church merged with the Missionary Church of Shambaugh, IA.At present (1966) the attendance average about 70.
