The Oelwein Area Genealogical Society started in 1973 and is a chapter of the Iowa Genealogical Society in Des Moines.

The Society donates genealogy books, census microfilms and county record microfilms to the Oelwein Public Library and maintains a genealogy file at the library.

Dues are $5 single or $7.50 family, per calendar year. Members do research for others for a fee.
