The surname that I am principally interested in is ACHESON. I have a biographical sketch from Washington County that states "David Acheson" was among the earliest settlers in Muscatine County.  He had several sons in the early to mid 1800s, and I would be interested in ANY information about Achesons during the period 1800-1900. David married Elizabeth Law Acheson who later lived (and probably died) in Louisa County. Five possible children would be George Acheson who later became an attorney in Fairfield), Robert J. Acheson, Rev. James Mitchell Acheson (who later resided in Washington County), John Law Acheson, James E. & James R. Acheson.

Her parents: William Thomas ANTHONY b. 3-30-1870 Muscatine, Iowa d. 1-14-1960, m. on 4-10-1890 to Amanda Amelia STORMS b.1-15-1870 Muscatine, Iowa, d. 4-1909 Muscatine, Iowa. William Thomas' parents: Thomas Jefferson ANTHONY b. 9-18-1836 Clinton, Ohio, d. ? Dodge City, Kansas, m. Hattie CHADWICK. Thomas Jefferson's parents: Thomas Clark ANTHONY b. abt 1800 prob. Virginia m. on 10-24-1822 Ohio to Judith Timberlake b. abt 1808 Salem, Indiana. Thomas Clark's father was Clark Morman ANTHONY b. abt 1780 probably Virginia. In 1843 Lyman HINE, pioneer Muscatine settler from Portage Co, OH, m Mary Ann BRANNON, also said to be from OH. After being widowed Mary Ann m George W. Jackson, and a third m was to L.W. Swafford. Mary Ann d in 1872. Who were her parents? Where is she buried? Jackson and Swafford info not needed.

Hiram BROOKS, son of Cooper BROOKS & Sophia TUTTLE of Canton, NY; b 1815 d 10 June 1876 Suissun, CA; married Isabelle Jane CLENDENIN 3 Apr 1845 in Muscatine, IA. Isabelle b 26 Aug 1824 in Lancaster, PA, d 10 Jun 1886 in Suissun, CA.

My gg grandparents lived in Muscatine County from the late 1850s with other members of the family continuing to live there, I presume. I am trying to locate the parts of the family that we have lost touch with who continued to live in Muscatine County. My great great grandmother's maiden name was Margaret Hurley. She married twice. The first Breen brother, John Breen, was my gg grandfather. After he died, she married his brother, I do not know the name. There were two families, my great grandmother of the 1st family, Catherine Breen married Michael Flynn in Muscatine County in 1864. Later, they moved to Adair County. The families I am trying to locate are descendants of Robert Breen, or Rob as he was called, and John Breen.
The second family children were Jane & Michael Hurley Breen who were twins. Jane married a John Abbott. The other sister was Mary Ann Breen. Both Michael and Mary Ann attended the University of Iowa. I believe, Dr. Mary graduated in 1898. She practiced medicine in San Francisco for many years. Any help would be appreciated.

 My Great grandmother Jane BUTCHER, dgt of John BUTCHER married William H. REEDER in 1876, Muscatine Co. IA. I am looking for Jane's mother's (Lovina or Louise) maiden name along with William REEDER'S father's name. William was born Jan 1849 in IL. Any information on William REEDER would be appreciated. I can't find much information on REEDERs in Muscatine Co. There are a lot of them in Cedar Co, but I have not been able to make a connection between any of them and William. Thanks much.

 My genealogical world seems to revolve around Muscatine. My direct ancestral clans are PURCELL, CONNOR,CHATTERTON, HOUVENAGLE, PARVIN et al. I'm sure I've left someone out. Collateral families are BEIL, MIDDLETON, LONGFELLOW, et al. I have a couple of queries and even though I've learned much about my Muscatinite forebears, have two genealogical puzzles. 1. I'd like to know the maiden name of my great-great granny. George Washington CONNOR as born in Orange Co. New York in 1826.He came to Iowa in the 1840s with his brothers. His wife's name was (Oh, gawd, my notes are someplace else!) Melinda. That's what it was. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they wed in Muscatine County in the late 1840s or early 1850s.
2. My HOUVENAGLE forebear was ol' Benedict born in Belgium in 1814. His wife was Deanna or Diana PERCY. I Know she was born in Virginia and I even have a copy of her obit. But I don't know a thing about her parents who subsequently are my forebears, too. Forgive me for being short on details,but I was a work when I stumbled upon this web page and away from my data. I was so excited, I decided to write. I'm planning a trip to Muscatine this summer to visit the Holy Land and pay my respects at various graves in Muscatine and Scott counties (I believe the Houvenagles are buried in Scott Co.)

I am looking for information on the parents of Evangeline (b. 1855, Muscatine Co.) and Charlotte (b. 1858, Muscatine Co.) CHEATEM/CHEATON/CHEATHAM/CHEATHEM in Muscatine County. They were orphans, according to an elderly family member. In 1860 Evangeline was living with the William FULMER family in Seventy-Six Twp. Charlotte was living with the Levi CROSS family, also in Seventy-Six Twp. In 1870 both girls were with the Levi CROSS family. I believe Levi and Elizabeth CROSS were the girls' grandparents. In 1874 Evangeline was married "at my granmas home in Muscatine County" to Silas RHODES. Their first son was born in Shelby County in 1875. Evangeline and Silas moved back to Muscatine County, to a farm near West Liberty, after 1908. Evangeline died in 1921 in Wagner, S.D. at her daughter's home. I do not have any more information on Charlotte.

CONCANNON surname. Rosa Lee Concannon Knowlton. Married in Muscatine, Iowa 12-25-1889. Any information on the Concannon family will be appreciated. Thank you.

 I am currently looking for information on an Indian woman with the last name of Crabtree. Apparently, she called Muscatine home, after having been everywhere else. I am told she was either Sioux-Fox or Cherokee(?) I am becoming concerned about actually finding information on her, and a photo reveals she was still alive in 1939.

 Looking for the father thru his son. The Son is James Davis. His wife was Sarah. He was suppose to have owned a button factory in Muscatine. We assume in the period 1885 - 1900. His father was Stephen Davis. Stephen may have died in this same time frame and be burried in the county at a place called Pine Bluff. If any of this makes sense please e-mail!

 I am looking for the family "de Leeuw", also written as "deLeeuw", "DeLeeuw", Deleeuw", or even with one "e". This family came from the center of Holland, little towns called Gellicum, Rumpt,Acquoy and Rhenoy.
In 1912 2 brothers and one sister came to Nichols Iowa, following the families "Van Stappershoef", " Van Mook" and "Van Malten". Why did they go to Nichols? What is so special about Nichols?  Do these "De Leeuw"s have descendents?  Who can help me, please?

I am looking the reason the Swiss family EBERSOLD, who immigrated to America in 1856, stayed a year in Muscatine, IA before moving up river to the town of Tell, Buffalo Co., WI. I am basing this request on a 1930's newspaper article on my GGF Charles EBERSOLD, who was a boy of 13 during his stay in Muscatine. If anyone has any background on Muscatine County being an arrival point for German-speaking Swiss in the middle 1800's I would appreciate the information very much.

In addition to the DRAKE-ODELL previous posting, I am also searching for any info on John S. FERGUSON. He moved from Beaver, PA at age 16 to West Liberty, Muscatine Co., Iowa as co-laborer on his father George's 160 acre farm in West Liberty. John joined active forces in the Civil War enlisting in Co. F of the 28th Iowa Infantry. He lost an arm in the war and was hospitalized in Estes House Hospital at Keokuk, Iowa where is wife brought their one(1) year old daughter by river boat from Muscatine to see him. That daughter lived to age 91 and was the source of a lot of very interesting family information. John S. FERGUSON was elected sheriff of Muscatine Co. at age 25 and later justice of the peace in Marshall Co. He cast his first vote for John S. Fremont. He later became superintendent of the National Cemetery at Keokuk, Iowa where he died at age 85 in 1915. He married Jerusha H. ODELL in 1854 at Muscatine where they had one daughter,Clara, and 7 sons: George, Elmer, Thomas "Del" Delano, Charles, Jay and Willie G. Any information on this family will be appreciated.

Would like to correspond with anyone researching William L. FIGG family who settled in Johnson Co., Ia.  Widow (Sarah Ann McKEAN) and family moved to Muscatine Co. about 1880. Ten children: William L. (marr. TYLER), John P.(marr. TYLER), Emma B.(marr. FESSLER), Edward (marr. MARTIN), Henry, Charles (marr. WRIGHT), Albert (marr. FOSTER), May Susan (marr. WRIGHT), James Sterling (marr. BUTCHER), and William.

 I recently discovered, in a NARA naturalization index, that my ggrandfather Peter FLOOD received his citizenship at the Iowa Dist. Court in Muscatine Co., although he lived in WI at the time. Peter was born in Ireland. The index states, "Final Oath of natz P135." The date was 20 January 1859. His witness was Patrick Farrell. I will be very appreciative if you can send me the mailing address of the Muscatine Clerk of the Court and the cost of copying the record of Peter's naturalization file.

Thomas GALLION (My grandfather) lived in Muscatine Counting during the year 1885. My father (Arthur E. Gallion) was born in Muscatine County in 1885. Family moved to Kansas around 1887. Would appreciate any information on this family.

 I am looking for genealogy information on any GARD /GUARD families that were in Muscatine Co. in the mid 1800's up through today. There was a BENJAMIN FRANKLIN GARD and his sister RACHEL REBECCA GARD who were in Muscatine Co. around 1850. I think Benjamin died there in 1901. Any information about this line would be appreciated.
