NEALSON, Howard H

Howard H. Nealson, 85, died Monday, January 11, 1999, at the Muscatine Care Center, following an extended illness.

Services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 1999, at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, with Betsey Neipert officiating. Organist will be Marianne Phelps with Darren Brooke as soloist. Casket bearers will be Larry Miller, Jeff Henderson, Les Henderson, Cliff Neipert, Dwain Hepker, and Dean Wilkerson. Burial will be in North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Nealson was born January 15, 1913, in Springdale, Iowa, the son of Neal and Christina Christensen Nealson. He married Wilma Roth on March 11, 1939, in Muscatine.

The couple had farmed in the West Liberty area from 1937 until 1967, and later owned and operated Nealson Excavating. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood, Silver Stirrup Saddle Club, Mississippi Valley Quarter Horse Association, Mississippi Valley Trotting and Pacing Association, and the Land Improvement Contractors Association. Howard enjoyed working with the land, in farming, and in his excavating business. He also enjoyed singing with the Swinging Seniors, and was a former member of the West Liberty City Council.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma of West Liberty; sons Gary (wife, Connie) Nealson of West Liberty and David (wife, Judie) Nealson of Lone Tree; a daughter Georgia Ann Nealson of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother Otto (wife, Lucille) Nealson of West Liberty; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and a brother.

NEBERGALL, Lois M Rehbehn

Mrs. Lois M. Nebergall, 86, died Friday, December 4, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were held Monday, December 7, 1998, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, with Rev. Terry Mahnke officiating. Organist was Chris Staley. Pallbearers were Brian Nebergall, Will Nebergall, Sarah Nebergall, Mark Hanson, Kurt Hanson, Robyn Woeste, Ray Nebergall, and Harold Staley. Burial was in the PeeDee Cemetery, rural West Branch. A memorial fund has been established. The Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nebergall was born May 24, 1912, near Atalissa, the daughter of Herman and Ida Pruess Rehbehn. She graduated from Springdale High School. She married Mearl Nebergall on August 24, 1933, at the home of her family; Mr. Nebergall died in 1984. The couple had farmed north of Atalissa all their life, moving to Atalissa in 1977. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Atalissa, and the Ladies Aid of the church. She was also a member of the Atalissa Get Together Club, Senior Citizen and West Liberty and Muscatine Saddle Club.

Survivors include two sons, Hilbert (wife, Marilyn) Nebergall of Nichols and Karl (wife, Betsey) Nebergall of Atalissa; a daughter, Ileen (husband, Rod) Hanson of Atalissa; seven grandchildren, Brian Nebergall, Robyn Woeste, Will Nebergall, Ray Nebergall, Sarah Nebergall, Kurt Hanson and Mark Hanson; a great-grandson, Nathan Woeste; and a special sister-in-law, Mildred Waugh of Tampico, Ilinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother.

NEFF, Ann M.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Riley Funeral Home for Ann M. Neff, 20, 207 E. 5th St.  She died suddenly at 6:45 a.m. Sunday at Muscatine General Hospital after being in failing health for several years.  Rev. Harris Knox of Denmark will officiate.  Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A daughter of Harold and Mariam Howard Neff, she was born Dec. 15, 1961 in Muscatine and was a life resident here.

Surviving are her parents; two brothers, Paul and Arnold, both of Muscatine; one step-sister, Mrs. Dora Jean Landon, Letts; paternal grandmother, Clara Neff, Muscatine; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Omer Howard, Muscatine.

NEFF, Harold William

MUSCATINE, IOWA-- Harold William Neff, 87, of 207 E. Fifth St. died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000 at Unity Hospital.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. The Rev. Bernard Weir will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Joe Raushenberger, Brian Luth, Zach McKillip, Jeff Watson, Kevin Lucas and Jim Herbert. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the National Rifle Association.

Mr. Neff was born on Aug. 3, 1913, in Conesville, the son of William and Clara Whitman Neff.  He married Miriam Howard on Aug. 23, 1958, in Galesburg, Ill.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He loved the outdoors and traveling to Florida.  He retired from Richards Packing House in 1972, and after he retired, he worked at McKee Button Co.

Survivors include his wife, Miriam Neff, of Muscatine;  one son, Paul Neff, and his wife, Shawn, of Muscatine; a stepdaughter, Dorie Landon of Muscatine; a stepson, Arnold Hosttler of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Decker, Julie Landon and Sarah Wenzel, all of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan Secrest of Charleston, S.C., Bonnie Noll and Zach McKillip both of Muscatine, and Jane Chown of Nichols; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Luth and Dorothy Raushenberger, both of Muscatine.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Ann, and one brother, Robert.

NELSON, Vesta Irene Martin Miner DeVore

ORLANDO, Fla--Mrs. Vesta Irene Nelson, 62, Orlando, Fla. died Monday afternoon at Fort Pierce, Fla., after an extended illness.

Services will be in Orlando on Thursday afternoon after which the body will be flown to Columbus Junction.  Services at Stacy Lewis Chapel, Second Street, Columbus Junction, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating.  Burial will be in the Conesville Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

Mrs. Nelson was born Jan. 20, 1915, at Lamoni, the daugher of Thomas and Ellis (sic-Alice) Woodward Martin.  She married her second husband, Irwin DeVore, in Muscatine.

Survivors include two sons, David Miner of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Glen Miner of San Francisco, Calif; five brothers; Thomas Martin of Haskins, William Martin of Grandview, Harold Martin of Muscatine, Arthur Martin of North Liberty, and Eugene Martin of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton of Conesville; Mrs. Glen (Alice) Yotter of West Liberty and Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Kees (sic-Keef) of Omaha, Neb; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin DeVore, one son Billy, three brothers, one sister, and her parents.

Notes: This obit is somewhat confusing in following the spouses: married 1st to Francis Miner (divorced), married second to Irwin "Friday" DeVore, who raised her children from first marriage; after he passed married Otis Nelson; they divorced.  Most of her married life was spent with Irwin "Friday" DeVore, which is why his passing and her marriage to him were the emphasis of the obituary.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for E. Martina Nester, of 43 Albany  Park, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Muscatine. Burial will be in St.  Mary's Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-
Freers Funeral Home. Mrs. Nester died Wednesday, July 12, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

Martina Whitlock was born Jan. 6, 1909, in Lone Tree. She married Andrew  "Chick" Nester in 1931 in Muscatine.

Memorials may be made to the church. Survivors include a  son, L. Randall, Tallahassee, Fla.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a  great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Robert Whitlock, Muscatine.

NEWCOMB, C. Russell

C. Russell Newcomb, 79, of West Liberty, Iowa, formerly of Middle Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Born May 4, 1917, in Middle Grove to Charles and Pearl Taylor Newcomb, he married Christine Failer on March 10, 1939, in Farmington. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Charles of West Liberty and James of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Carol) Satke of Florissant, Mo.; three half brothers, La Vern of California, Mo., George of Ellisville and Walter of Middle Grove; two half sisters, Vera Perardi and Hattie Jane Maccanelli, both of Farmington; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. One half sister and one half brother preceded him in death.

He and his wife worked at First Church United Stand at the Muscatine County Fair for 40 years. He was an agent for White Pigeon Insurance in Wilton, Iowa, for 18 years. He was a member of First Church United in West Liberty.

Services were Wednesday at his church. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. Arrangements were by Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty.  Memorials may be made to West Liberty Rescue Unit.

NEWCOMB, Floyd Willis

Floyd Willis Newcomb Sr., 76, died early today, Monday, June 20, 1994, at his home, 2716 Isett Avenue.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Miller of the First Christian Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Samuel Houseman, Nickolas Sharar, Kim Griesenbrock, Andrew Sharar, Allen Strause, and Glen Epperly. Burial with military rites conducted by the veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, will be at Greenwood Cemetary.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Mr. Newcomb was born May 6,1918, at Kirkwood, ILL., a son of Willis Knoght and Axie Ann Terrill Newcomb. He had lived here for most of his life.

On Feb. 24, 1945, he married Lenora Belle Lami, in Paris, France. He was an Army veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater.

He owned and operated Newcomb's Grocery in the 1940's. Later he started Newcomb Trucking, doing road work in Muscatine until 1978, when he retired.

Survivors include his wife, Lenora: one son, Floyd Newcomb Jr. of Muscatine: two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Sharren) Houseman and Mrs. Robert (Karren) Sharar, both of Muscatine: nine grandchildren, Kimberly Strause, Robin Swanson, Samuel Houseman, Andrew Sharar, Mandi Newcomb, April Newcomb, Nickolas Sharar, Nicole Newcomb and Austin Newcomb; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry Newcomb of Muscatine; and three sisters, Edith Grimm of Nichols, Ruby Epperly of Muscatine, and Hazel Baars of Grandview.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, three brothers, Cecil. Harold and Charlie, and one sister, Viola Schrock.

NEWTON, Ruth M. Jones Rhodes

Mrs. Ruth M. Newton, 61, 1713 Palm St., died Monday at Layman's nursing home, after an illness of six months.

Mrs. Newton had been a resident of Muscatine for more than 25 years, and formerly lived at Burlington. She was born April 13, 1905, at Chicago, the daughter of William Henry and Annalelillian Wehmer Jones.   The former Ruth Rhodes, she was married July 26, 1952, in Muscatine, to Charles Newton.

Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Sophie Rose Farrell of Troupsberg, N.Y.; six step-sons, Eugene Newton of Muscatine, Maynard Newton of Horgan Hill, Calif., Harry Newton of Bettendorf, Chester Newton, Allen Newton and Richard Newton, all of Moline; two step-daughters, Mrs. Archie (Helen) Edginton and Mrs. Lincoln (Dawn) Steckman, both of Muscatine; and 30 grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister.

The body is at the Riley funeral home, where friends may call.   Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, by the Rev. Sherman D. Hunter, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery.

NICHOLS, Judith Celynda (Mrs. Pliny-nee Grandy)

"A Good Woman gone"

Mrs. Pliny Nichols, who suffered an attack of apoplexy on the 12th was finally relieved of her sufferings and called to her eternal home in the better world at an early hour Saturday morning.

Judith Celynda Grandy was born in St. Lawrence County, New York, Sept 20th 1823, Died April 17, 1897, at her late home near West Liberty, Iowa, in her 72nd year. She received the most of her education in the public schools and devoted several years of her early life to educational work.

She was married to Pliny Nichols July 8, 1846, at Cardington, Morrow County, Ohio, where they made their home until 1856. They then moved to Iowa and settled on the farm which has since been their home. Seven children have been born of this union, five of whom are now living. Ann L., now the wife of N.C. Tarleton, of Blair, Neb., George S.; Benj. A; William P; and Linnie D., now the wife of C.P. Gibson, all of West Liberty, Iowa.

In spirit she was gentle, kind and benevolent, a true friend to the needy, the sick and the afflicted, a devoted wife and mother. She was for many years a member of the M.P. Church of South Prairie, where her presence was always a benediction. The last three years of her life she suffered greatly, but was patient through it all. She often wished that she could go Home and be at rest. To her, Death was a welcome messenger of peace.

Rev. Walley of Downey, conducted the funeral services at the South Prairie church, Monday at 11 a.m.

NICHOLS, Margaret Hill
Margaret Nichols, 85, Former Resident of West Liberty, Dies.

WEST LIBERTY--Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Snider funeral home for Mrs. Margaret Nichols, 85, former resident here and widow of the late B.A. Nichols.

Mrs. Nichols died Monday at the home of her son, Frank Nichols, at Hutchinson, Kan. She was born July 16, 1864 in Waynesburg, Pa.

Surviving her are two sons, Pliny, in California, and Frank, of Hutchinson, Kan; a brother Frank Hill, of St. Paul, Minn, and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nichols and her husband left West Liberty about 40 years ago.
The body will arrive at the funeral home here tonight. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery.

NOBLE, Curtiss Dwane

Curtiss Dwane Noble, 73, of Shenandoah, Iowa, and former of Muscatine, Iowa, died early Monday, Nov 13, 2000, at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah.

He was born March 5, 1927, in Oakville, Iowa to LeeRoy and Edith Brown Noble. He grew up in Oakville where he received his education. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.  On August 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Pauline Granaman.

He was a State Conservation Officer in the Muscatine area, retiring in 1989.

Mr. Noble was a member of the United Methodist Church, The American Legion Post No 27 in Muscatine, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 5166 in Wapello, The National Rifle Association, and a lifetime member of the Muscatine Power Boat Club.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, boating, woodworking and flying.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Pauline on June 29, 1993; two brothers, Chester and Leland Noble, and a sister, Ruth Lee.

Survivors include three stepdaughters, Ona Bishop, Linda Belger and Billie Strickland; a loving companion, Donna Wright of Shenandoah; plus several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held later at the Edwards Cemetery in Oakville, following cremation. The Selby Funeral Chapel in Shenandoah is in charge of arrangements.

NORET, Ray O.

Ray O. Noret, 86, formerly of 704 Cedar St., died Saturday at Valley View Manor.

Services are Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairbanks-Lamb Chapel.  The Rev. William Means will officiate.  Burial will be at Wyoming Ill.

Visitation is today until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Noret was born July 11, 1901 at Belevedere, Ill., a son of Lewis and Lydia Keeling Noret.  On July 23, 1923 he was married to Bessie Troxel at Oshkosh, Neb.  He retired in 1966 after 37 years of employment at Iowa Electric.

Survivors include three sons, Keith and Gray both of Austin, Texas; and Dennis of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two daughters, Ruth Merrill of Austin and Betty Highland of Aurora, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; half brothers, John of Wyoming, Ill., Glen of Warminster, PA.; Forrest of Anchorage,  Stanley of Phoenix; and Conard of Selah, Wash.; and half sisters, Glennafa Bernard, Shirley Vilatte and Mrs. Beverly Mercer, all of Wyoming Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter, one brother and one sister.

NORTON, Dr. William Sheffield

Dr. W. S. Norton, 74, County Coroner, Dies

Dr. William Sheffield Norton, 74, Muscatine County Coroner and well known physician and surgeon, died suddenly of a heart attack at is home, 408 Broadway at 5:05 p. m. Saturday.  His funeral plans were indefinite this afternoon, awaiting the arrival of relatives from a distance.  The body is remaining at the Hoffman Funeral home.

Serving as county coroner here for more than 30 years, Dr. Norton was prominent in medical and official circles of the community.
Dr. Norton served as a member of the board of education of the Muscatine Independent School District on two occasions and served as president of the board for several years.

He was affiliated with Iowa lodge No. 2, A. F. and A. M. was a member of the Muscatine Elks Lodge and of Wyoming lodge No. 76, Knights of Pythias.  Dr. Norton served in a medical unit in the World war and was a member of the Edward H. Bitzer post, American Legion.

Born in Napoleon, Henry County, Ohio, on July 8, 1867, he was the son of Jonathan D. and Ada Sheffield Norton.  He attended the public schools in the Ohio town and later took a university course at Urbana, Ohio.  Moving to Topeka, Kansas, he secured a position as assistant to the paymaster of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe railroad, and subsequently took up the study of pharmacy, being graduated from the pharmaceutical departent of Kansas university.  In 1900 he was graduated as a physician and surgeon at the Kansas Medical College.

Coming to Muscatine, he first engaged in the drug business and later formed a partnership with his father-in-law, Dr. Morgridge, in the practice of medicine.  The partnership continued until the death of Dr. Morgridge in February, 1909.

Dr. Norton married Miss Myrta E. Morgridge, a native of Montrose, Ia., on June 7, 1893.  She preceeded him in death a number of years ago.

Surviving are a brother, R. H. Norton, of Atlanta, Ga., an agent for the Santa Fe railroad; a sister, Mrs. H., S. Judd, of the state of Washington; a daughter, Mrs. R. G. Bauerbach, of Phoenix, Ariz., and a grandson, Richard Bauerbach, also of Phoenix.
Dr. Norton was preceded in death by three brothers, John H. Norton, who died at the age of thirty; David Z. Norton and Jonathan D. Norton, Jr.

NORTON, Myrta Edith Morgridge

HER COUSIN DEAD

Mrs. W.E. Walsh received a message Sunday morning announcing th death of her cousin, Mrs. Norton, which occurred at her home in Muscatine, Ia. Saturday night.  Miss Georgia Walsh went to Muscatine Sunday to attend the funeral.  Mrs. Norton had visited the Walsh home here several times.

Funeral Services Conducted This Afternoon

Mrs. Myrta Edith Norton, 54, wife of Coroner W. S. Norton, died at her home, 408 Broadway at 4:30 Saturday afternoon after an illness of three years.  For the past week Mrs. Norton had been bedfast and hopes for her recovery had been abandoned.
Miss Myrta Edith Morgridge was the only daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George O. Morgridge, former residents of Muscatine.  She married Dr. W. S. Norton in 1893 at Los Cerrilos, New Mexico.  For many years Mrs. Norton had been an active member of the First Congregational Church here but for the past few years had been affiliated with the First Church of Christ Scientist.
Surviving besides her husband, are one daughter, Miss Ruth Norton, and her mother, Mrs. Ruth Morgridge, both at home.  One brother, Dr. Henry Morgridge, preceded her in death.

-FUNERAL TODAY-
Funeral services were conducted from the home this afternoon at 2:30 by J. A. Storts, first reader of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, assisted by the Rev. William Hainsworth of the First Congregational church.  Interment was in Greenwood cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dr. F. A. Neil, E. Ferguson, George Filble, Chester Billy, James Brody and Webb Will.  M. P. Goff, funeral director, was in charge of arrangements.

NOWYSZ, Marion

Memorial services for Marion Nowysz, 78, of 1722 Timberline Drive, will  be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Muscatine. No visitation will be held. Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery,  Muscatine. Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine, is in  charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or Iowa City Hospice Program.

NUDO, Florence Emily Barnhouse

Florence E. Nudo, 69, of Springfield died Monday at Memorial Medical Center.

She was  born Jan. 13, 1926, in Eliza Township, near Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Ruth Hallsted Barnhouse.   She married John A. Nudo in 1958.

Mrs. Nudo was a resident of Springfield since 1953. She was a teacher for  District 186 from 1953-82,  working at Stuart, Butler and Iles schools before her retirement. She was a  member of St. Agnes Church an Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors: husband, John A.; a daughter, Mrs. George (Sarah) Colburn of Springfield; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jack (Barbara Nudo) Veghte of Clearwater, Fla.; two stepsons, Ronald Michael Nudo of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and John J. Nudo of Springfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Beryl) Crose o Aledo; two brothers, Floyd  Barnhouse of Winamac, Ind., and Charles Barnhouse of Coal Valley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins

NUGENT, Mildred Gerlach

WAPELLO--- Funeral services for a former resident, Mrs. Eugene Nugent, 57, were held at 11 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic church, Iowa City. The body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine for research.

Mrs. Nugent died Thursday at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. The former Mildred Gerlach was born in Moville, Iowa. She and her husband had resided in Wapello many years when they operated a restaurant and hotel here. Later they moved to Iowa City.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene, at home in Iowa City; two sons, Michael, Houston, Texas, and Thomas, Iowa City, two daughters, Nancy Schulte, Burlington, and Mary Ellen Rogers, Kileen, Texas; and six grandchildren.

NYE, Benjamin

Benjamin Nye of Muscatine County, Iowa, was killed in that county in late February or March by Geo. McCoy of Cedar County.

NYENHUIS, Albert G. "Jack"

 Albert G. (Jack) Nyenhuis, 71, 1904 Sterneman Ave., was pronounced dead on arrival at Muscatine General Hospital at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday.    Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home.   Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Wednesday noon. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery.

The son of George C. and Rebecca Welsch Nyenuis, he was born Sept. 23, 1906, in Sweetland twp., Muscatine county, and had been a life resident here.   He was married June 19, 1937, at Muscatine, to Thelma Brower Meisky.

He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist church and the Moose lodge.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Thelma Nyenhuis; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Marilyn) Wiley, Des Moines, and Mrs.. Willis (Shirley) Thieker, Muscatine; one sister, Mrs.. Elizabeth Stigers, Denver Colo.; and five grandchildren.   He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

NYENHUIS, Beulah  (Mrs. Glenn)

Funeral services for Mrs. Glenn (Beulah) Nyenhuis, 69, were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the George M. Wittich funeral home.
Rev. W. R. Thompson was the minister.  Mrs. Florence Hetzler was the organist, and Mrs. Vernon Cochran the vocalist.
Flower attendants were Mrs. Herbert Holtz and Mrs. Andrew Andersen.  Pallbearers were Herbert Holtz, John Holtz, Andrew Anderson. Albert Herlein, John Calvelage and Harold Hetzler.
Interment was at the Harker cemetery.

Mrs. Nyenhuis died Sept. 24 at Muscatine General hospital.

NYENHUIS, Clyde G.

Funeral services for Clyde G. Nyenhuis, 61, of 1208 Park Avenue, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph J. Wittich funeral home.  Rev. J. Arthur Eveland will officiate.

Interment will be at Greenwood cemetery.

My Nyenhuis was a life resident of Muscatine, and an employee of the Iowa Highway Commission.  He died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday following a sudden heart attack while at work.

Mr. Nyenhuis was born March 17, 1901, at Muscatine, the son of George C. and Rebecca Welsch Nyenhuis.

He was married Dec. 27, 1922, to Ruth L. Tohm, at Muscatine.  Mr. Nyenhuis Was a member of the First EUB church.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Ruth Nyenhuis of Muscatine; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne Hetzler of Muscatine; two brothers, Glenn G. Nyenhuis and Albert G. Nyenhuis, both of Muscatine; a sister Mrs. Elizabeth Stigers of Denver, Colo.; and two grandchildren, Curtis and David Hetzler, Muscatine.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one son in infancy.

NYENHUIS, George Christian

G. C. Nyenhuis,
Lifelong County Resident, Dies
 ---------

George Christian Nyenhuis 79, lifelong resident of Muscatine county, died at his home.  Death was sudden, due to a heart attack.

The son of Chris Christian Nyenhuis and Berendena Meerdink Nyenhuis. he was born in Lake township on Sept. 23, 1890.  He married  Arula B. Freeland on March 3, 1940, in Muscatine.  Mr. Nyenhuis was a retired farmer and was of the Lutheran faith.

Surviving are his wife, four children by a previous marriage, Clyde and Albert Nyenhuis of Muscatine, Glen Nyenhuis of Atalissa and Mrs. Raymond Stigers of Denver, Colo., two half-sisters and two grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, two sons, two brothers, four sisters and two half-brothers.

The body is at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral home and service will be conducted there at 2 p.m. Monday.  The Rev. J. Arthur Eveland, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren church, will be in charge.  Burial will be in the Harker cemetery.

NYENHUIS, Glenn George

Funeral services for Glenn George Nyenhuis, 74, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Geo. M. Wittich Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Harker Cemetery.  Visitation will be held between 7 and 9 o'clock tonight at the Funeral home.
Mr. Nyenhuis died at the Oakwood Nursing Home.

Born March 17, 1901, in Muscatine County, he was the son of George C. and Rebecca Welsch Nyenhuis, and had been a life resident of this community.

He married Beulah Phillips Dec. 23, 1931, at Aledo, Ill.  He was a member of the Otterbein Methodist Church and a retired farmer.

Survivors include one brother, Albert, of Muscatine; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Stigers, Denver; and four nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife and three brothers.

NYENHUIS, Rebecca Welsch (Mrs. George Nyenhuis)

Funeral services over the remains of Mrs. George Nyenhuis of Sweetland township, will be conducted from the family home at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.  The Rev. L. E. Jones, pastor of New Era Lutheran church, will officiate, and burial will be made in the Harker cemetery.

Mrs. Nyenhuis passed away at Hershey hospital at 7:30 o'clock Sunday morning after an illness of three weeks.  Death following a complication of ailments.

Rebecca Welsch, the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth Welsch, pioneer residents of Sweetland township, was born April 24, 1873.  She lived in Sweetland township during her entire life.  She married George M. Nyenhuis, March 3, 1897, to which union six children were born.  Her husband, three sons, one daughter, five sisters and three brothers survive.

Mrs. Nyenhuis was president of the Kensington society at New Era, having held that office for several years.  She was also secretary of the Ladies Aid society and an active and willing worker and school district co-operator of the Sweetland district.

She joined the New Era Church when it was first organized.
