WEST LIBERTY--William Kaalberg, 73, died at his home here about 9 a.m. today following an extended illness.
Mr. Kaalberg was born in
Holland January 16, 1878. He has been a resident of Muscatine county
since 1902.
He married Johanna Giesen,
April 17, 1909, in Wehl, Holland.
He was a former city employe of West Liberty and a member of St. Joseph's church.
Mrs. Kaalberg is survived by his widow, three sons, John, West Liberty, Leonard and Joe, Rock Island, Ill., four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wagner and Miss Margaret Kaalberg, Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Mary McAnally, Muscatine, and Miss Alyida Kaalberg, at home. Two brothers, Frank, Lone Tree, and Lheinhart, Wilton Junction, and 10 grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St Joseph's church in West Liberty. The rosary will be recited at teh family home at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Snider funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

TIPTON--Mrs. Etta Albert Kahl, 71, died here at 10 p.m. Friday aftrer she had attended the funeral of her husband, Fred, earlier in the day.
Mr. Kahl, 72, died Wednesday in Cedar Rapids. He was born October 15, 1878, in Lowden.
Funeral services were held in the Sheets funeral home in Tipton and burial was in the Masonic cemetery.
Mrs. Kahl was born at Wilton Juntion June 12, 1880.
She is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Henry Kahl, Mrs. Paul Hutchins, Mrs. F.J. Casterline and Miss Millie Gano, all of Tipton.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with burial at the Masonic cemetery.

Funeral services for Fred Kallengerger, 75, Moscow, killed Thursday afternoon when his truck was struck by a freight train at Atalissa, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the George M. Wittich funeral home. The Rev. Caleb Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
Mr. Kallenberger, a farmer, was born in Louisa county Sep 21, 1888, the son of C. F. and Kate Nevins Kallenberger. He married Hazel Edmonson Nov. 25, 1909, in Muscatine.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Lloyd R. Kallenberer, Tipton, and Donald A. Kallenberger, Muscatine, two daughters, Mrs. Allen Gray, Muscatine, and Mrs. Harold Swick, Tipton; one brother Paul Kallenberger, Quincy, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Tanner, and Mrs. Fred Aring, also of Quincy, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers are dead.
Friends may call at the funeral home beginning Saturday morning.

Mr. Kaspar was born February 12, 1930, at Iowa City, the son of Herman and Evelyn (Kron) Kasper. He married Delores Meka on October 13, 1954, at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City. Mr. Kasper farmed in Johnson County for many years and was a past president and vice president of the Johnson County Farm Bureau and served on many of the committees. Leroy was known for 38 years as Santa Claus in the Lone Tree, Hills, Nichols and Morse area. He was a former member of Saint Bridget’s Catholic Church, serving on the parish council at St. Bridget’s and Lone Tree, and he was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. For many years he sold Archer Oil and Farmers Hybrid boars and gilts.
Survivors include his wife, Delores; two sisters, Bernice Gardner (husband, Bill) of Lone Tree and Arlene Kasper of Muscatine; mother-in-law, Adelaide Meka of Iowa City; sister-in-law, Joyce Hollenbeck (husband, Gayle) of Atalissa; nieces and nephews, Deb Carter (husband, Jeff) of West Liberty, Diane Cunningham (husband, Mike) of Marion, Danita Terhune of Iowa City, Theresa Sexton (husband, Brian) of Iowa City, Donald Kaspar Jr. and fiancé Dawn of Nichols, and Jim Johnson of Waterloo; and great nieces and nephews, Shawn, Chase, Justin, Josh, LeeAnna, Eric, Blake, Alex, Nicholas and Lacey. CHARLES CITY — Katherine (Mrs. Ralph) Zastrow, 94, a resident of 400 Kelly St., died Wednesday (Nov. 19, 1997) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
A funeral Mass for Katherine Flavey Zastrow will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will occur at a later date.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday where the parish vigil scripture wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will continue at the church Monday an hour prior to the Mass.
Katherine Mull Falvey Zastrow was born March 19, 1904, at Muscatine.
Survivors include two step daughters, Helen Noah and Virginia Smith, both of Charles City; six step grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

James R. Kauffman, 74, of 2415 Maplecrest Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa, father of three Peoria-area women, died at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, March 29, 1992, at Mercy Hospital in Davenport.
Born Oct. 18, 1917, in Columbus Junction, Iowa, to William W. and Bessie Simmons Kauffman, he married Mabel J. Swanson on April 4, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo.
She survives along with four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Judy) Joiner and Mrs. Butch (Carol) Fandel-Oliver, both of Washington, Mrs. Greg (Jane) Haley of East Peoria, and Mrs. Stephen (Debi) Herbers of Davenport; one son, James of Davenport; 19 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. One brother preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. The Rev. Ordell Peterson will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 tonight at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.

BLUE GRASS, Iowa -- Services for Christian "Chris" Kautz, formerly of Blue Grass, have been held. Burial was in Blue Grass Cemetery. He died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Kautz worked until 1951 at the former Kautz Produce, Blue Grass.
He was born Oct. 26, 1909,
in Blue Grass. He married Erna Friedrichsen in 1951.
During World War II, he
served in the Army and was stationed in Europe.

LONE TREE--Mrs. Susan Jane Keeler, 63, died at her home south of here today following a long illness. She lived her entire life in the Lone Tree community.
Mrs. Keeler was born in Johnson county August 22, 1888, the daughter of James and Susan Kane Bell. She was married to Ben F. Keeler at Muscatine March 17, 1905.
She was a member of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Lone Tree and the Women's Guild of the church.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Jennie Fagerlind, Waterloo, MRs. Bernadine Tobias, Muscatine, and Mrs. Marlynn Maher, Davenport, and six sons, Benjaman J, Keith and Stanley all of Lone Tree, Bruce and Robert at home, and Staff Srgt. William D., with the airforce at Scott air base, Ill.
Two sisters, Mrs. James Hacke, Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. Mamie Estle, Conesville, and three brothers, James Bell, Lone Tree, John Bell and William Bell both of Iowa City, also survive. Mrs. Keeler was preceded in death by a son, James, and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Hubbard.
Funeral services will be held at the Lone Tree Evangelical and Reformed church at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Otto Baumann will officiate and burial will be in the Lone Tree cemetery. The body will remain at the Sorden and Admas funeral home until time for services.

Following his death in 1962, she later married Bill Keith in 1969. He died in 1973. She was a longtime homemaker and baby-sat in her home for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Mr. Keller was born July 22, 1916, in Muscatine, the son of Perry and Emma McChesney Keller. He married Edith Dusenberry Jan. 27, 1934, in Muscatine. She preceded him in death in 1972. He then married Dorothia Frederick Oct. 11, 1979, in Muscatine.
He retired from Bosch Pest Control. He was a past member of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothia Keller of Wapello; a stepson, Harlan McKillip and wife Virginia of Stockton; two stepdaughters, Doris Burkamper and husband Bill of Plain Field, Ill. and Carol Reid and husband Dallas of Columbus Junction; a granddaughter, Pam Quinn of Hemet, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; 16 stepgrandchildren; 35 stepgreat-grandchildren; a niece, Phyllis Hannon of Duncombe; and three nephews, Robert Wingerson of Webster City, Harold Wingerson of Fort Dodge and Everett Gary of Aurora, Minn. He was born Feb. 1, 1909, in Muscatine. He married Retha in 1933 in Minneapolis. She preceded him in death. He married Florence Rehben in 1950 in Moline. She died in 1982. He was employed at Roach & Musser for 16 years and at Pittsburg Glass in Iowa City and Davenport for 30 years as a glazer until his retirement in 1972.
Memorials may be made to Musserville Church Building Fund.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Josephine Johnston, New Boston, Ill.; three nephews; five nieces; and a special friend, Mabel Mahler, Muscatine.

She was a member of the Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church and the Women of ALCA.
She
is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby Culbertson and
her husband, Dale, of Moline, Ill., Iona Reid
and
her husband, Tom, of West Branch, and Sharon Conklin and her husband,
Rich, of Muscatine; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and one brother, Donald Fix of West Liberty.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Theodore Kemper on May 30, 1999, two brothers, Floyd Fix and Harold Fix, a sister, Erma Baker and also an infant sister, Beverly Fix.

Mae went to live at the Muscatine Care Center and I have a couple of photographs
of my aunt and Mae taken in the store at that time. She was a very
nice lady. Many years earlier my grandmother's brother Jake Brei
and his wife lived upstairs over the store.
CONESVILLE, Iowa -- Services for Jimmy D. Kennard, of Conesville, were Aug. 24 at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Burial is in Conesville Cemetery. Military services were conducted.
Mr. Kennard died Aug. 20, 1998, at Muscatine General Hospital. He was employed the past three years as a semi truck driver for Tan Tara.
He was born April 12, 1935, in Iowa City. He married Mary Stanford in 1955 in Iowa City. During the Korean War, he served in the Navy. A memorial fund has been established.

90, died December 21, 1998, at the Simpson Memorial Home, West Liberty,
following a lengthy illness.
Services will be held Thursday,
December 24, 1998, 10:00 a.m. at the Barker Funeral Home, West Liberty,
with Rev. Frank Schultz officiating. Casket bearers will be Jim Brooke,
Dan Todd, Ed McQuillen, Dick McQuillen, Kathy Huiser, and Tara Maurer.
Burial will be in the Overman Cemetery, Atalissa. Friends may call from
5-7 p.m. on December 23, at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. A

Mrs. Kephart was born June 17, 1908, in Davenport, the only child of Charles and Clara Johnson Eggert of Bennett, Iowa. She attended Bennett High School. She married Edward Lester Kephart of Atalissa on September 19, 1928, in Davenport. The Kepharts lived in Davenport until 1933 when they started farming in Bennett. They later moved to Nisswa, Minnesota, where they owned and managed a summer fishing resort until 1963. Following retirement, they spent their winters in Orlando, Florida, later moving to West Liberty. Edward Kephart died April 2, 1978. Augusta had been in Simpson Memorial Home the past four years.
Survivors include a son, Phillip Arthur Kephart (wife, Barbara; a daughter, Patricia Verlee Brooke (husband, Robert); seven grand-children; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a grandson.

Emil Kerschenske was born Oct. 14, 1896, in Lublan Poland, Russia, the son of Edward and Caroline Derger Kerschenske. He married Ella Bartelt on July 10, 1925, in Muscatine. Kerschenske was a retired button cutter.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Harold, Robert and Dale, all of Muscatine; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Erma) Powell and Mrs Leslie (June) Van Dolah, both of Muscatine and Lyda Kerschenske of Chicago; 18 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Muscatine, IA Oct 4--Two Muscatine men were shot and killed in a billiard .. here at 3 a.m. today and a Muscatine woman suffered a serious face wound, Police Chief Mark Taylor reported.
The men, Jack McKenzie, operator of the club, and Rex Kilbourn were said by Chief Taylor to have been shot by Ralph Wagner, 34, of Muscatine after an argument between McKenzie and Wagner. Chief Taylor said Wagner shot the two men after McKenzie refused to lend Wagner some money.
Mrs. Paul Hahn, employed at the club, was hit by a stray shot.
Wagner escaped from the buiding, Taylor said. About 10 minutes later, polce were called ten blocks from the club where it was reported there had been an automobile accident and Wagner was staggering away. When police arrived, Wagner eluded them, Taylor said, and escaped between two buildings.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Services for Grover A. Kinsley, of Muscatine, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, Muscatine. Burial will be in Island Cemetery, Fruitland. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kinsley died Monday, June 21, 1999, at Crescent Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Muscatine.
He was employed as a foreman at Martin-Marietta Cement Co., now known as LaFarge Inc., Buffalo.
He was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Muscatine County. He married Mildred Brown in 1932 in Muscatine.
Memorials may be made to the Grover Kinsley Memorial Fund.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Irene Dipple and Loretta Tetrick, both of Montpelier; a son, Dale, Clearwater, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Obituary.--Died at her home near Nichols in Wapsinonoc township Monday,
March the 19th,
Mrs. Anna Barbara Schaeffer
Kirchner at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 21 days.
The deceased was born in
Barkenau, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany. She came to this country in the year
of 1854.
After leaving New York she
came to Rock Island, Ill., where she made the acquaintance of Mr. Fred
Kirchner with whom she was united in marriage at Muscatine the 29th of
March, 1855. They then left Muscatine and moved on a farm near Wilton,
whree they resided for six years. In the year 1861 they moved to their
farm near Nichols, this being her home until her death. There were born
to them four children, three sons and one daughter, of which one son and
one daughter departed this life before
her.
The funeral services were held at the German church in Nichols by Rev. John Thurner, pastor of the Lutheran church.

Charlotte Lenz Kirchner, daughter of Valentine and Barbara Lenz was born in Hessen, Darmstadt, Germany, Nov. 27, 1845, and died at the home of her son, Henry Kirchner in Nichols, at 4:30 a.m., Oct. 27, at the age of 85 years and 11 months.
She came to America with her parents in 1856, and settled in Buffalo Prairie, ILL. later moving with her parents to a farm near Nichols. At the Age of 11, she was confirmed in the Protestant Evangelical church.
She was united in marriage
with Bernard Kirchner, Dec. 23, 1863 and in this union were eight children:
Elizabeth Kolling of What Cheer, Anna Mapes of Oskaloosa, Margaret Carl
and and Gertrude Kirchner of Nichols, Frederick H. of Lone Tree,
John of Fort Worth, Texas,
Henry of Nichols, and Bernard A. deceased.
All of her family remain to mourn her death, with the exception of her husband who preceded her in death 25 years, and one son Bernard A. who died two years ago, Fifteen grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
She was one of the few remaining old settlers of Muscatine county, having made her home in and around Nichols from childhood, and was loved and esteemed by all who knew her.

Services
will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside.

Scott, Perry Saul, Dr. John Finneran, Wayne Conkity, Cliff Fisher. Honorary

Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rotary International, Mercy Hospital Foundation, The University of Iowa Foundation and the Trinity United Methodist Church of Riverside.
Mr. Kirchner was born April 21, 1928, in Lone Tree, the son of Gildra and Lucy Holdeman Kirchner. He married Betty Catherine Eden on Sept. 26, 1954, in Lone Tree.
He attended the Lone Tree Community School until 9th grade. He graduated from Garner High School and Hamilton Business College.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Riverside, Rotary International, Rathbun Yacht club, Johnson County I-Club, serving as treasurer for many years, Treasurer of the Iowa Bankers Association, Independent Bankers Association of America, Riverside Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Masons, Abner Lodge No. 535 in Lone Tree, Iowa City Shrine Club, Kaaba, Lone Tree American Legion Post No. 457, Riverside VFW No. 6414, treasurer of the Highland Community School Board and the Agricultural Rural American Committee Chairman.
He loved sailing, fishing and the Hawkeye Athletics.
He worked for the state tax division before becoming a cashier and later the president of the People’s Trust and Savings Bank in Riverside from March 1951 to January 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Kirchner of Riverside; three daughters, Ann Dudler and her husband, Andrew, of Iowa City, Colene Bolt and her husband, Christopher, of Menomonie, Wis. and Kimberly Kirchner of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Chloe, Grace and Christian Bolt of Menomonie and Wesley Kirchner of Iowa City; an uncle, Kenneth Holdeman and his wife, Tressa, of Fort Meyers, Fla.; a nephew, Jay Staats of Nashville, Tenn.; a niece, Lisa Becker and her husband, Fred, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and a great-niece, Kristin Becker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister, Gwendolyn Staats.

85, died Friday evening at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a two week
illness.
Services were today at 1:30

operation of the Nichols
branch until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Masons and
Order of Eastern Star
at Lone Tree; the Kaaba
Shrine of Davenport; the Nichols Christian Church where he served as treasurer
and
deacon, IOOF member, forer
councilman, former trustee of Muscatine General Hospital, and former trustee
of the
Ramsey Memorial Home in
Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife,
Edna, of the Oaknoll Retirement Home, Iowa City, where the couple has resided
for the past
eight years, and one sister,
Marguerite Grimm of Muscatine. He was preceded in death by two sisters.

Donald C. Kirk, 60, of 1658 58th St., died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Kirk was born on May 29, 1940, in Bloomington Township in Muscatine County, the son of Glen and Alberta Bernice Schell Kirk. He married Mo Kelly in 1961. He later married Jamie Wilhoit on December 28, 1974 in Argo.
He was a member of the Isaac Walton League and enjoyed golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, the University of Iowa Hawkeyes , and was also a Dale Earnhart fan.
He retired from Alcoa after 33 years of employment.
Survivors include his wife, Jamie Kirk of Muscatine; three sons, Joe Kirk, Todd Kirk and Shane Kirk, all of Muscatine; one granddaughter, Sydney Paige Kirk of Muscatine; his mother, Bernice Brewer of Muscatine; three brothers, Gerald Kirk and his wife, Darlene, of Wapello, Larry Kirk and his wife, Shirley, of Durant, and Albert Kirk and his wife, Cheryl, of Davenport; and one sister, Nancy Hinz and her husband, Richard, of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen Kirk, and his step-father, Donald Brewer.

Virginia Elizabeth Klein of Boulder, who owned and operated an A&W Drive-In for 20 years, died May 4 in Boulder. She was 83. There was cremation, and no services were held.
She was born April 23, 1912, in Denver. On June 17, 1930, she married Harold Klein in Columbus Junction, Iowa. Mrs. Klein enjoyed fishing, gardening and the outdoors.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Peter, Denver; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ellen Hafner was born Dec 5, 1912, in Cranston, Iowa, to Lester and Ola
Warthman Hafner.
She
married Eddington Klipstein Nov. 11, 1934 in Montana, and later moved back
to Letts.
She had worked as a secretary for Ceylon Seals and Thatcher Plastic Packaging. She had served on the Letts School Board, worked at the Letts School office and had been the Letts City Treasurer. She also taught at the Sandy Grove School and was active in the Letts Federated Club and the Letts United Methodist Church.
After her retirement, she and Eddington retired to Mesa, Ariz., and had just moved to Columbus, GA, last year.
Adelia is survived by her husband, Eddington Klipstein of Columbus, Ga.; a daughter, Jan Ellis and her husband Dale of Midland, Ga.; three grand-daughters, Suzanne Best, Stephanie Carpenter and Cynthia Cook; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Byron Hafner and Dale Hafner and his wife Beverly of Letts; stepmother , Mina Hafner of Fairfield, Iowa, and numberous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harry Hafner.

Lange Korschot, 74, life resident of Muscatine, whose death occurred Monday
at Bellevue hospital following a brief illness. The Rev. Everett Hageman,
pastor of Zion Lutheran church, will have charge. Burial will be at Greenwood
Cemetery.
Mrs. Korschot was born Dec.
2, 1880 in Muscatine, the daughter of John and Margreta Wiegand Lange.
Her marriage to John Korschot took place here on May 30, 1903. She was
a member of Zion Lutheran Church, of the Ladies Bible class and the Ladies
Aid society of that church and of the Lutheran Homes sewing circle. Her
home was at 109 East Fulliam Avenue.
Surviving are her husband;
one son, Raymond Korschot; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Lane; three brothers,
Herman, Harry (Dick) and Fred Lange; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Heussner and
Mrs. Jake J. Behrens; and three grandchildren. All reside at Muscatine.
Preceding her in death were

J. Korschot, 44, whose death occurred at 12:50 p.m. Thursday at her home,
1326 Park Drive, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ralph J. Wittich
Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. The body is remaining
at the funeral home.
Mrs. Korschot, daughter
of Christ and Ida Schwartz Koehler, was born in Muscatine county September
14, 1902 and spent her entire life here. She was married to Raymond J.
Korschot on July 2, 1925 at Muscatine. Mrs. Korschot was a member of the
First Presbyterian Church, of Electa Chapter No. 32, Order of the Eastern
Star and Rose Croix Shrine, White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Surviving are her husband,
one son, Paul, at home; an aunt, Mary L. Schwartz of Muscatine and two
uncles, Fred Schwartz of Davenport and Walter Schwartz of Lancaster, Wisconsin.
Her parents preceded her in death.

Well Known Resident of West
Hill Answers Summons After Illness More
Than One Year.
Mrs. J. D. Korschot, one
of the best known of West Hill residents, died at her home at 125 Kindler
Avenue last night at about 10 o'clock, following an illness of more than
a year's duration. Throughout the past several months, Mrs. Korschot has
been bedfast and her demise was not unexpected. She was 76 years old and
for many years had resided on West Hill.
Mrs. Korschot, whose maiden
name was Miss Hanna Beukenhorst, was born at Winterswijk, Holland, February
9, 1841, and resided there for the first 41 years of her life. At Winterswijk
she was united in marriage with J. D. Korschot. The the union four children
were born of whom only survives, John D. Korschot, Jr. In 1882 the family
came to America and settled in Muscatine, residing here ever since. Mrs.
Korschot was a member of the Dutch reformed church and had been prominent
in the affairs of that denomination throughout her life. In addition to
her husband and son, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lyda Nyenhuis
and Mrs. Henrietta Groters of this city, one brother, John Beukenhorst
of Kawker City, Kansas, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services are announced
to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home.

John Dirk Korschot,
85, died suddenly at 5:30 o'clock this morning at the home of his son,
John Korschot, Jr. 610 Kindler Avenue. He had been sick only three days.
The deceased was born September
22, 1837 at Winterswiik, Holland. Following his marriage to Hannah Beukenhorst,
the couple came to America in 1881 and settled in Muscatine. For years
he was employed in the sawmills. Four children were born to them, three
preceding the father in death. Mrs. Korschot died March 23, 1917. Since
then Mr. Korschot resided with his son, who with two grandchildren, Raymond
and Rosabelle Korschot, survive.
Funeral services will be
held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the family home. The Rev. John
Haefner, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, will be in charge.

Mrs. Effie Jane Koser, 95, a long time resident of the Iowa City and North Liberty communities, died Sunday at 2 a.m. at the home of her daughter in Muscatine.
The daughter of Michael and Mary Doner Zeller, she was born August 14, 1859 at North Liberty. She spent her entire childhood in that community.
She was marriet to Jacob I Koser at North Liberty, April 20, 1880. The couple moved to Blunt, S.D. in 1883 and resided there until 1888 when the moved to Omaha, Nebr. In 1894 they returned to Iowa City, then went to Seymour, Mo., in 1904, moving back to Iowa City in 1904. The family moved to North Liberty in 1940. Mr. Koser died April 7, 1942 and then Mrs. Koser moved to Muscatine to live with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Zeller.
A lifelong member of the Methodist chruch, Mrs. Koser was a primary Sunday school teacher for the church until her later years.
Survivors include her daughter,
three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death
by her husband and one daughter, Edith.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Beckman's with the Rev. Raymond Moore, pastor of the North Liberty Methodist church, officiating.
Burial will be in the Ridgewood
cemetery at North Liberty.

William Krahl, a veteran of more than 30 years in state government and a self-described "seat-of-the-pants" crystal-ball gazer, died of cancer Monday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was 66.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Community Bible Church in Grandview, with burial in the Grandview Cemetery.
Mr. Krahl, of 4017 33rd St., was born in Grandview and moved to Des Moines in 1955. He retired from the state comptroller's office in 1986 after having served since 1983 as the chief fiscal adviser to Gov. Terry Branstad. In that job, he was the main official responsible for preparing the governor's budget recommendations. Since 1955, when he joined the comptroller's office, he held the positions of director of the financial management and state budget divisions and assistant comptroller. He was acting comptroller in the late 1970s and again in 1983 before being named comptroller.
Mr. Krahl was a veteran of the Army.
Surviving are his wife, Mackie; a daughter, Susan Krahl of Des Moines; and a sister, Evelyn Agnew of St. Augustine, Fla. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being handled by Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction.

STOCKTON, Iowa -- Services for Ann E. Krebs, of Stockton, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott. Burial will be in Durant Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 p.m. today at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant, and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mrs. Krebs died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at her home. She was employed five years at a floral designer at Walcott Floral and was a substitute teacher in Wilton, Durant and Walcott.
Ann Mueller was born Nov. 23, 1947, in Mason City. She married Darwin Krebs in 1969 in Manly.
Memorials may be made to Durant Ambulance Service and the church. Survivors include her husband; daughters, Carolyn Krebs, Tracy, Calif., and Carla Wagner, Story City, a student at Iowa State University, Ames; a son, Keith, a student at ISU; a foreign exchange daughter, Monica Garcia, Monterrey, Mexico; two grandsons; her father, Albert Mueller, Manly; and sisters, Ruth Barnett, Newton, Margaret Weir, Colo, Susan Trebil, Manly, and Jane Thompson, Dumont.

Ann E. Mueller was born on Nov. 23, 1947, to Albert and Elsie (Bartlett) Mueller in Mason City. She married Darwin R. Krebs on Nov. 27, 1969, in Manly.
Ann graduated from Iowa State University in 1970. She was employed as a floral designer at Walcott Floral, Walcott, for five years. Ann was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Walcott and was active in its choir and bell choir. She also served as pianist, substitute organist and music leader.
She was a professional volunteer,
she was an executive and leader with Campfire for 10 years. She was
a substitute teacher who taught at Wilton, Durant and Walcott. She
retired as a 4-H Leader after 11 years and was active in the Muscatine
County
Farm Bureau for 18 years.
Survivors include her husband,
Darwin Krebs, of Stockton; her father, Albert Mueller, of Manly;
two daughters, Carolyn Krebs, of Tracy, Calif.; Carla (Mrs. Adam) Wagner,
of Story City, a student at ISU Ames; one son, Keith Krebs, a student at
ISU, Ames;
one foreign exchange daughter,
Monica Garcia, of Monterrey, Mexico; four sisters, Ruth (Mrs. Rod)
Barnett of Newton; Margaret (Mrs. Ben) Weir, of Colo; Susan (Mrs. Steve)

She was preceded in death
by her mother, Elsie Mueller.

Remains of Mrs. A. Kristberg
Buried in Jewish Cemetery
Young Woman Succumbed at
Hershey Hospital Following a Six Weeks’ Illness.
The funeral services over
the remains of Mrs. Rachel Zalburg Kristberg, wife of A. Kristberg, proprietor
of the Boston shoe shop in the German-American building, were held at 10
o’clock this morning. The services were in charge of the Jewish society
of which the deceased woman was a member. Interment took place in
the Jewish cemetery a short distance from the city.
The death of Mrs. Kristberg
occurred at 5:30 o’clock Saturday afternoon following an illness that was
not considered serious until the day on which she passed away.
Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her death, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Zalburg, of Kovno, Russia; David Zalburg, of New York. While a resident of Muscatine but a short time, the deceased woman made a number of sincere friends, who regret her early death.

Former Alderman`s Mutilated
Body at Lombard St. Crossing

Muscatine, Ia., July 13.---Funeral rites were held in the Meyers Funeral home this afternoon for John "Sonny" KROG, former Fourth ward alderman, who was found dead on the railroad tracks at the foot of Lombard street, near his home at 4:35 a.m. Sunday. Services were in charge of the Rev. L.C. McDONALD, Musserville Methodist church, and burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
The badly mutilated body was discovered by the crew on the freight train No. 96. Indications were that he was hit during the night, but no witnesses to the accident have been found. Both arms and his left foot were severed and his head had been crushed. No inquest was called.
Mr. VAN KROG, a native of
Germany, was 54 years old. He had been a resident of Muscatine for many
years.
Surviving are a sister,
Mrs. J.H. SCHOULT, Fruitland, and a brother, Julius, Demorest avenue.

Edward A. Krueger, 88, formerly of 1419 Gobble St., died early Sunday morning at the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW, American Legion and World War I Barracks. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 o'clock this evening at the Geo M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home.
The son of Karl and Johanna Mishkey Krueger, he was born May 29, 1894 in Waukeska, Wis. He had resided in the Muscatine area most of his life.
His marriage was to Jessie Cunningham, Mr. Krueger was U.S. Army veteran having served during World War I. He retired from the Roach and Musser Lumber Co.
Survivors include one son, Lyle of Muscatine; three daughters, Lxila Johnson and Shirley Wheeler both of Muscatine, and Lala Cecil; and 16 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jesse Krueger, 71, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Fairbanks-Lamb Chapel. Rev. Joseph Stoube will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Krueger died at 6 a.m. today at Muscatine General Hospital. She had resided at 1419 Gobble St.
Born Jan. 4, 1901, in Illinois City, the daughter of Martin and Mattie Hayes Cunningham, she had spent her entire life in the Muscatine area.
She became the bride of Edward Krueger, Dec. 23, 1921, at Muscatine.
Survivors include her husband, Edward, at home; one son, Lyle Krueger, Muscatine; three daughters, Mrs. William (Shirley) Wheeler, Council Bluffs, Mrs. James (Lila) Johnson, Muscatine, and Mrs. Raymond Sissel, of Penn., two brothers Ollie and Harold Cunningham, both of Muscatine; two sisters Mrs. Richard Brown, and Mrs. Elva Burns both of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her parents, and one brother preceded her in death.

LONE TREE--Mrs. Minnie Krueger, 92, died at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City Thursday afternoon following a short illness.
Mrs. Krueger was born in Brandenburg, Germany, January 13, 1860, the daughter of Charles and Minnie Ratz. She came to the United States at the age of seven.
She was married to Carl Krueger at Muscatine October 25, 1878. They lived in Illinois for about a year before locating north of Lone Tree, where she has resided since.
Mrs. Krueger was a member of the German Lutheran church.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ann Froehlke, Chicago, Ill., Miss Emma Krueger, Chicago, Mrs.Minnie Lake, Beatrice, Nebr., Mrs Mary Larew, Iowa City, and Mrs. Edna Petru, Hills; three sons, Charles Krueger, Eliza, Ill., John Krueger, Brighton, and Herman Krueger, Newton, 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and five sons.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Evangelical and Reformed church at Lone Tree. The Rev. Otto Baumann will officiate and burial will be in the Lone Tree cemetery. The body will remain at the Sorden and Adams funeral home until time for services.

Evelyn G. Kurtz, 80, of Delmar Gardens of Lenexa, died Dec. 24, 1994, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Southridge Presbyterian Church; burial in Mount Moriah Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Amos Family Chapel, Shawnee. The family suggests contributions to the church's memorial fund.
Mrs. Kurtz was born in Nichols, Iowa, and lived in this area most of her life. She was a member of the church. Her husband, Earl M. Kurtz, died in 1982. Survivors include a daughter, Janet Kurtz, Roeland Park, and a sister, Thelma Baker, Houston.
