Our originally listing of Brockway Cemetery was compiled by lists from the Musser Library, WPA records and members of the Brockway family. In July of 2000 the cemetery was rewalked by myself and Mary Singleton of Conesville IA. The stones which we were able to locate are highlighted in blue.
I have combined on this page
the original listings from the Musser Library Files, the WPA and information
from the Brockway family and those from the 2000 walk. Those
listings were then researched using Mable Estle Brown's 1977 book "Fork
of the River: History Is People" and other sources. Mrs.
Brown is now deceased--permission to use information from the book was
given by her daughter Patricia Brown Hoback.
The land for the Brockway Cemetery was donated in 1876 by Alonzo Brockway.
The above drawing is based
upon the research done by Mabel Estle Brown for her 1977 book "Fork
of the Rivers: History is People" and shows the original owners
of the plats within Brockway Cemetery.

The road runs along the left side of this drawing with the gate opening into the upper corner of the Hesler lot (where I tripped in a hole and discovered the marker of Jacob Hesler). On the right side of this drawing bordering the lots from Jones to Calhoun is a fence separating the cemetery from a corn field. It was in the far upper corner of this drawing, in the I.W. Jones lot next to the corner fence post where we found pieces of at least 3 markers and one fairly intact marker. There may have been other stones buried in the mud which we did not find.
It would also appear that some of these lots may have been given or sold to families other than those named on the original lot owners maps, as there are, in some cases no stones with these names or large groups of stones with other surnames not related to the lot owners listed on the map.
Once the cemetery was walked,
additional sources were used to help clarify relationships and provide
additional information.
Sources for the additional
information are marked accordingly:

Pieces of at least 3-4 stones found in back corner of cemetery near fence post. Three of these we were able to partially identify. There may be others. View photo of marker group found in back corner of the I.W. Jones Plot (not necessarily related to the Jones family)
It is also possible that a young German farm worker, Robert Vendiger, who died in a farm accident in 1861 on the Brockway farm in Orono twp, may also be buried here. The grizley account of his death does not indicate his final resting place.
It was initially thought that John and Flora Brockway Schmeltzer were also buried at Brockway but WPA records indicate they are buried at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington County, Iowa and there is nothing at Brockway to indicate that they are there.
