- Tri-County Historical Society
P. O. Box 234
Cascade, Iowa 52033
With Cascade bordering Jones, Jackson and Dubuque counties, this active historical society houses artifacts at the Tri-County Historical Museum, which was once the West Side School House. The One Room School House, that was moved onto the grounds is where the late Adrian Aitchison, past president of the society, attended as well as his father and his children. Next to the museum sits a Narrow Gauge car salvaged from a train wreck near the town. Outside also sits an authentic old time street light that once lit the front of St. Martin's Catholic Church. The museum is open to the public every Sunday from 1-4 p.m. from the first of may to the end of October and by appointment any time. For more information, contact: Secretary/Treasurer--Mary Lee Hostert (563-852-3589).

- The Des Moines Public Library now has an internet site which lists obituaries from the Des Moines Newspapers. They are still adding to it but are close to completion. You first have to go to their Home Page for the Public Library. Then click the link "Leaf Web Catalog," then the link "Newspaper Index" which takes you to the Search Page. You can either type in the Surname and it will give you all those obits with that surname, listed alphabetically, or you can type in the full name of the person, last name first, then first name and initial and it will take you right to that person, if they are listed. They also ask you to use the Forward and Back arrow buttons at the top of the page, rather than your browsers Forward and Back buttons. Now you should have a listing of the surname you entered and you highlight the one you want and you can either double click on that name or you can click on the Show Details button and you will be given the Name of the paper, the date of publication, the section, page number and column in which you will find the obituary.
- The Des Moines Register Obituaries - Current obituaries are being placed online and they will be on line for seven days.
