Welcome to the Bikacs (Bikács), Hungary Genealogy Website

This site exists to help unite and aid genealogy researchers who have roots in this small village in the county of Tolna, Hungary.   Bikacs was settled centuries ago by Germanic people known as the Heidebauern.  Today we descendants of these settlers are scattered throughout the world, and hopefully this website will help us not only find our roots, but also each other!

About me...

My name is Jane Gilbert, and I am the administrator of the Bikacs website.  I currently live near Baltimore, Maryland in the United States, but was born and raised near Akron, OH where my grandparents immigrated in the early 1900s.   I descend from numerous German families from Bikács where my maternal grandfather and several generations preceding him were born and raised.  (My maternal grandmother was Maria Schneider from the village of Herczegfalva/Hercegfalva which is today known as Mezofalva.)

This website is dedicated to the memory of my grandfather, Paul Greenwald (Grünwald), whose work ethic, pride and determination remain a lasting influence in my life.

Please contribute...

I appreciate and welcome any and all contributions you can make.  The information on families and surnames will be free-form, so you can submit any information on your family lines such as trees, family stories, legends, photos, etc...

Please feel free to e-mail me via the "Contact Me" option if you have any information to share.

Acknowledgments...

I am eternally grateful to my distant cousin Paul Stiener in Germany who has sent me more information and photos on Bikacs than I ever imagined I would receive, and also to Henry Fischer of Canada who has generously contributed an enormous amount of historical information for the site.  And to both of these gentlemen, I'd like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for going to the trouble of researching and sending to me priceless information on my grandfather's siblings that I otherwise would have never known.

Another Bikac(s)...

If you're looking for information on the Donauschwaben village of Bikac in the Banat, I'm afraid this is not the right place.  This other Bikac is located in present-day Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia).
