Martin Holtzhauser

Johann Martin Holtzhauser was baptized 3 May 1710 in Merklingen, Wurttemberg, Germany. He was the son of Sigmond Holtzhausser and Anna Maria Zwilling. The family had a history of working as masons and soldiers.

On 3 Jun 1739, in Merklingen, he married Catharina Dorothea Ratzler, daughter of Johann Jacob Ratzler and Dorothea Pfehler. They had seven children in Merklingen by the time they decided to emigrate to America.

Martin Holtzhauser arrived at the Port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 26 Sep 1752 on the ship "Richard and Mary", John Moore, Master, from Rotterdam, last from Portsmouth. His wife and at least four sons accompanied him. He was a brick mason by trade, and first located at Phillipsburg, NJ. He subsequently resided at various points along the Musconetcong Creek. He was living in the town of Bethlehem, Hunterdon Co, NJ at the time of his death in 1792.

He left no will, but the records confirm the names of the following children:
