Research Notes

There is nothing to prove that Christan Schindel was even related to Wilhelm Schandel, except for the curious fact of this family's residence in Greenwood Township. It is entirely possible, after all, that the Wilhelm Schandel family came to America after hearing good reports from relatives. (The different spelling of the name is unimportant as the census taker for Greenwood Township was incapable of spelling anyone's name properly.) In support of the idea of Schandel relatives in the area, Schendels were also recorded living in Frankfort, Wright Co. in 1880. On the other hand, various counties in Minnesota and Wisconsin had Schendel families in 1880, and they are not likely to all be related to Wilhelm Schandel.

The funeral for Warren Westerberg was held on 16 November 1996 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota, Warren's sons and their families came to North Dakota from California, Texas, and Oregon for the funeral. The first snowstorm of the season occurred the day of his funeral. Janice and Wanda had come on the train and almost couldn't get back to the train station because the snow was so severe. June wrote, "Even though we were grieving, it was so good to see them [Warren's sons and their families] and get acquainted with Warrens grandchildren who are now teenagers and adults. They experienced quite a welcome back to North Dakota with all the snow. We had our first snow storm of the season the day of Warren's funeral."3,1,6,7 He was buried on 16 November 1996 at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. (an unknown value).1

Henrietta Kottke1

F, b. circa 1836?, d. 22 June 1876
Last Edited14 Mar 2016
Census data from 1870 indicate Henrietta Kottke was born circa 1836? At Prussia. The 1870 census is unclear as to whether she was 34 or 24.2 Census data from 1875 indicate Henrietta Kottke was born circa 1845 at Prussia.3 In 1865 Henrietta Kottke married Christoph Schendel, son of Michael Schendel and Wilhelmina Klatt, at Wright County, Minnesota.1,2 Henrietta Kottke died in childbirth, age 31 years, 4 months, 13 days on 22 June 1876 at Greenwood Township, Hennepin County, Minnesota.4 She was incorrectly reported as dying in 1875.1

Research Notes

Herman's birth record lists her as Caroline. There seems to be no reason to believe that this was anything but an error in the birth record.
