Levi Thortvedt was born on 31 January 1860 at Fyresdal, Telemark, Norway.1,2 On 5 March 1883 Levi Thortvedt married Ingeborg Midtgarden, daughter of Gunnar Talleivson Ø. Midtgarden and Torbjorg Jonsdtr S. Spokkeli from Moghus 17f.1
On 2 March 1903 Levi Thortvedt noted that Norwegian school began.3
In February 1905 Lars Öie began teaching Norwegian parochial school January 23, but by mid-February Gunder Gunderson came to Levi Thortvedt to ask him to get rid of the schoolmaster because he was not normal (Orabel recalled "he was a fresh air fiend--opened winows & doors of the school house & took walks on road--no cap--Feb. 13th Dad drove down to Rev. Bondal at parsonage--Knut Vetlison Shaaheim will take his place--Dad had to go to school house to tell Lars Öie the people did not want him longer. Öie was disappointed--Kurt Shaaheim--an old schoolmaster with raspy quavering voice proved to be a schoolmaster we would never forget!!--kind--Morning of Feb. 18th--when dad took us to school there stood nut--could not get in--Lars still had the key!!"4
On 16 February 1908 at Clay County, Minnesota, At the funeral of Gunild Skrei, there were 30 horsedrawn rigs. All of the Thortvedts except Stella, Florence, and Norman attended the ceremony in the home. Pallbearers were Jorgen Jsensen, Alec Grover, Kjöstov Muhle, Ola Midgaden, Gunder Lee, and Leiv Thortvedt. Rev. Bendik Bondal officiated at the church ceremony; burial was in the churchyard with the bell tolling.5
On 28 April 1908 telephone poles came to Moorhead.5
On 4 June 1908 an ice cream social held by the church (Concordia).5
On 4 July 1910 an ice cream social by Concordia church.6
On 20 October 1910 Chester Muhle offered to testify to Holt as to what O.G. Thortvedt had said about his estate.6
In 1912 Levi Thortvedt threshed for Ole Thortvedt, Theodore Skrei, Albert Holm, Ole Amundson, Gil Richards Metcalf, Ole Helseth, Guro Muhle (her crop east of track), Howard Bassett, George Johnson, Levi Peterson.7
On 4 August 1912 ice cream social at Anne Gunderson's.7
In 1915 the question arose as to whether Levi Thortvedt should sell his "80"--Olaus Gunderson wanted to buy it for $100 an acre and Guro Muhle wanted to buy it for $111 an acre, but according to Orabel, "Thank God, dad hard pressed to pay rest of Real Estate claim etc Did not sell!"8
On 30 July 1916 the community would pay Rev. Kile $250 to resign so he turned in his agreement to leave.9
On 17 June 1917 a Red Cross picnic in the Thortvedt family woods.10
On 9 July 1922 Sons of Norway picnic at the Thortvedts.11'
In 1922 at the Grand, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota, Robert La Follette spoke.11
On 22 December 1928 the First & Moorhead National Bank closed its doors; Thortvedts lost $83.40 but Richard Midgarden lost $1600, Ed Studlien $800, Theodore Langlie allegedly $10,000 and Tone Langlie allegedly all her money.12 Levi Thortvedt was a pallbearer at the funeral for Tarjei Olavson on 17 May 1929.13
     On 8 April 1931 a "very bad dust storm."14
On 27 May 1931 cyclone at 5 P.M. destroyed Concordia Church and much more.14
On 2 June 1931 Mrs. Thortvedt and daughters Dora and Stella gave coffee and cake to workers at the demolished Concordia Church--"everybody there--dad worked with Rasmus Rue & Aanund Köse"-unfortunately "the workers threw the broken tombstones downhill!! and consequently we have many lost graves....."14 Levi Thortvedt died on 30 October 1936 at Clay County, Minnesota, at age 76.15 He was also reported to have died on 2 November 1936 (date is probably that of funeral).16 He was buried at Concordia Cemetery, Clay County, Minnesota.16,17
