His obituary appeared at the Fargo Forum and read as follows:

Professor Wayne V. Huebner

Wayne died on September 27, 2011 at the age of 87, following a stroke.
He was born in Minneapolis, on June 23, 1924, to William A. and Esther (Nelson) Huebner. He grew up in Clay County, attended District 116 School, and graduated from Glyndon High School in 1942. After serving as a combat infantryman in the 8th Armored Division during World War II, he attended North Dakota Agricultural College (now NDSU) for two years, before transferring to the University of Minnesota, where he went on to earn his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in English. While completing the Ph.D., Wayne held teaching positions at North Dakota Agricultural College, the University of North Dakota, the University of Minnesota, and Illinois State University at Normal. He then continued to teach at Normal until 1968, when he began work at California State University at Fullerton, where he taught until 1990.
He married Dolores Lamb, daughter of Walter and Gina (Muhle) Lamb, at the Glyndon Lutheran Church in 1949. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage and moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1990.
Wayne was a man of keen and varied interests, from foreign languages to beekeeping. He was a skilled cabinetmaker, an avid traveler, and, in writing, a precise stylist. He loved working outdoors and kept rabbits, cats, and various kinds of poultry for many years, while growing fruits and vegetables from avocados to zucchini. Of singular importance to Wayne were the friendships he made in Czechoslovakia at the end of the war; he remained in touch with his Czech friends all his life, and he and Dolores visited Czechoslovakia (and later the Czech Republic) many times.
Wayne is survived by his wife Dolores, their two children, Karla (Dayton, OH) and Todd (Washington, DC), and five of his seven siblings—Berdelle Kragnes, June (Walt) Westerberg, Maggie Ekanger, Betty Bishop, and John (Peggy) Huebner—as well as by many nieces, nephews, and their progeny. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill Huebner and sister Esther Horner.
His ashes will be interred at Riverside Cemetery near Glyndon, Minnesota, at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside Cemetery, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

A memorial for Wayne Vincent Huebner was held on 5 May 2012 at the NDSU Alumni Center, Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota, Initially Dolores did not want to have a big gathering, but Karla pointed out that Wayne was well-loved and that people would want to have a chance to honor his memory. Dolores's old friend Dorothy Delger then suggested the NDSU Alumni Center might be a good venue. It proved ideal. Many members of the extended family helped and many more attended, as well as several surviving friends. Todd Huebner and Ryan Harrington prepared photo displays and a commemorative CD. Leslie (Horner) Moberly and others helped welcome the guests. Roy Bishop served as Master of Ceremonies. Todd Huebner read the Lord's Prayer in Old English and he and Karla read selections from Wayne's memoirs. Several people, including Pat Smith, offered recollections. The Eider family videotaped the event.

William Anthony Huebner is believed to belong to Y-DNA haplogroup R-CTS3402 (formerly R1a1a). He also went by the nickname of Bill but here he will generally be referred to as W. A. Huebner in order to avoid confusion with his son Bill. He was born on 25 January 1897 at Berlin, La Moure County, North Dakota.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 He appears in a group photo of Huebner, Nelson children and their classmates between 1909 and 1910 at the District 116 school, Clay County, Minnesota. He appears in a group photo of the younger Huebner boys circa 1914?. Paul Andreas Huebner, brother of Bill Huebner, died on 15 December 1914 at the ravine at the corner of Second Ave. and Ninth St. north, Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.9,10,11 He appears in a group photo of the Theodore Huebner family circa 1915. He and Mabel (?) were incorrectly shown as married circa 1918 at Missouri or Iowa In 1970, after his wife Esther (Nelson) Huebner died, W.A. Huebner claimed he had previously been married to a nurse named Mabel who had died of the flu and been buried in Mason City, Iowa. Reaction to this story from his children varied. June thought it was nonsense. Bill told Wayne, who thought it could be true but could also be just the effect of their father seeing so many movies and having a wild imagination. His granddaughter Sandra says he kept a tiny photo of Mabel hidden in his wallet, which he showed her once. In 2005, June stated that she knew her father had not been married because one time when he was out of town, her mother called up his father and brother Chuck to insist that they come down and clear something up for her: was there a prior marriage or not? Both men said there had been no other marriage; Chuck, who had been in the military with him, said that he had gone out with a nurse but not married her.12,13,14,15 William Anthony Huebner was barely an adult at the time of the death of his mother Amelia Schandel on 6 January 1919.16,17,18,19,20,21 William Anthony Huebner and Esther Elizabeth Nelson were incorrectly shown as married on 2 March 1919 at Minneapolis, Minnesota.3,22,23,4 On 2 February 1920 W.A. was a farm laborer working "out" (not on his father's farm).5 On 2 March 1920 William Anthony Huebner married Esther Elizabeth Nelson, daughter of Johan Nelson and Marie Arneson. Following the wedding, they spent awhile in North Dakota.24,25 Their fifth child, William Charles, was born on 19 October 1929 at Austin, Minnesota.26,1,27,25,4,28 In 1930 William was a carpenter in construction, not actually working--see unemployment schedule 22 at Austin, Mower County, Minnesota.29 Lewis Norris Quam was employed by W.A. Huebner at the Tin Farm, Clay County, Minnesota, after Theodore Huebner departed with sons Buddy and Fritz.30
On 31 August 1941, William Anthony Huebner gave away the bride at the wedding of Abner Gordon Kragnes and Berdelle Marie Huebner at the Glyndon Lutheran church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.31,3,32,4 In 1945 W.A. was listed as a carpenter at 819 S. 5th, Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.33
W.A. Huebner was invited to the wedding of Dolores Mae Lamb and Wayne Vincent Huebner on 25 June 1949 at the Glyndon Lutheran Church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota, but did not attend. Supposedly he had a dentist's appointment that day. Wayne figured he just couldn't bear to face all the people from Glyndon who would be there.3,34,4,35,36

Huebner at Moorhead?, Clay County, Minnesota.37
W.A. Huebner attended the graduation of his oldest son Wayne Vincent Huebner from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1950.38,39 Some of his children, notably his son Bill, referred to him as the Patriarch.40 In 1952 William was a contractor.41 In 1956 W.A. was a building and general contractor at 1214 S. 7th, Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.42 In later life William installed Genie electric garage door openers; in 1965 he installed one for his son Wayne in Normal, Illinois. Wayne thought he could open his doors by hand, but after seeing how well the electric openers worked, he was glad to have one.43 Alfred Huebner was employed by William Anthony Huebner at Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.44 He appears in a group photo of surviving children and daughers-in-law of Theodore and Amelia (Schandel) Huebner in 1978. He died on 10 January 1980 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, at age 82.1,3,45,7 He was also reported to have died on 10 January 1980 at Clay County, Minnesota.46

He was supposedly married in the army while stationed in Jefferson Barracks Louisiana (I don't know if that's the name of a town, or the camp in which he was stationed). Mabel was supposed to have died during the flue [sic] epidemic, and buried in Mason City, IA., but the story was related to me long before your Grandma Huebner died, but without significant details. So, I asked Grandma to confirm the tale. She had heard it many times and thought it was fabricated for her benefit. (Perhaps to make her jealous/my opinion.      Walter Morey Lamb also went by the nickname of Walt. He was born illegitimate on 10 December 1890 at Elkton Township, Clay County, Minnesota.3,4,5,1,6 He was incorrectly reported as born on 10 December 1891 in the Lamb family bible. Perhaps this later date was entered in the hope that his mother would have married Mr. Morey by that time.7 On 14 July 1894 his mother Mary Elisabeth Lamb married Joseph Lee Flenner at Minnesota.8,9 Walter Morey Lamb graduated from the third or fourth grade at most, believed his daughter Dolores.10 His mother Mary Elisabeth Lamb died on 21 September 1902.11,12,13,14,15 Walter Morey Lamb appears in a group photo of the brother James and Andrew Lamb and their nephew Walt. Walter Morey Lamb was a member of at the Downer baseball team, Downer, Clay County, Minnesota.16 In 1910 Walt was a laborer on the home farm at Elkton Township, Clay County, Minnesota.17 Between 1910 and 1958? Walt was a farmer and a garage mechanic at Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.10 Circa 1919? Walt Lamb was employed by Mr. Fox (father of the egregious Lard and Snipe) at his garage at Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.10 On 7 January 1922 Walter Morey Lamb married Gina Theresa Muhle, daughter of Kjetil Olson Moen and Guro Olasdatter Rue, at Clay County, Minnesota. This is the date from the county marriage index.18 Walter Morey Lamb and Gina Theresa Muhle were also reported married on 8 January 1922 at Minnesota.4 Walter Morey Lamb and Gina Theresa Muhle were also reported married on 22 February 1922 which was probably the date of the actual ceremony.9,19 Walter Morey Lamb and Gina (Muhle) Lamb's first child, Earl Wallace, was born on 4 April 1922 at Clay County, Minnesota.4,5,20,21
Walter Morey Lamb was named an heir in the will of his grandmother Ann Anderson dated 25 September 1923.22 Walter Morey Lamb appears in a group photo of Guro Muhle's descendants and their spouses circa 1926?. In 1930 Walter farmed at Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.23 He was baptized on 14 December 1936 at the Lutheran church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota. John Seter and Gilbert Bekkerus were the sponsors.24 He appears in a three-generation group photo circa 1948.
On 25 June 1949, Walter Morey Lamb gave away the bride at the wedding of Dolores Mae Lamb and Wayne Vincent Huebner at the Glyndon Lutheran Church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.25,4,26,9,27
On 25 June 1949, Walter Morey Lamb gave away the bride at the wedding of Dolores Mae Lamb and Wayne Vincent Huebner at the Glyndon Lutheran Church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota.25,4,26,9,27
Walt Lamb attended the graduation of his son-in-law Wayne Vincent Huebner from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1950.28,29 Walter Morey Lamb committed suicide on 19 June 1968 at 1509 8th St. S., Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota, at age 77.4,5,13,30,31,32,33 The funeral for Walter Morey Lamb was held on 22 June 1968 at the Lutheran Church, Glyndon, Clay County, Minnesota, at 10:30. Rev. H.M. Finstad and Rev. Glenn Anderson officiated.34
His obituary appeared on 19 June 1968 and read as follows:
"Walter Lamb, 77, formerly of Glyndon, Minn., was found dead this morning at the home of his daughter at 1509 8th St. S., Moorhead.
"Mr. Lamb was born at Downer, Minn., Dec. 11., 1890, and had farmed at Glyndon until retiring 10 years ago. He recently moved to live with his daughter in Moorhead. He had been in poor health the past few weeks due to a stroke.
"He was a member of the Lutheran Church at Glyndon and the Lions.
"He leaves his wife, Gina, a resident at Eventide in Moorhead; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Lois) Schur, at the home address, and Mrs. Wayne (Deloris) Huebner, Normal, Ill. There are 10 grandchildren.
"Dr. John R. Holten, assistant Clay County coroner, ruled death was self-inflicted. (Wright Funeral Home)."30

He left a will dated 1968 at Clay County, Minnesota.35

Research Notes

It is not known when Mary Lamb gave her son Walter to her mother to bring up. Dolores suggests that the Lambs may have moved to Glyndon when they married--that Ann Lamb may have given Walter property there at that time and he may have begun work for Fox at that time.

She wrote, "I can't believe I'm really going to work. I hate to give up my free time - hopefully it will only be until (IRS DAY), April 15." As it turned out, she preferred being a receptionist to being a tax preparer. She returned to H&R Block in January 1991, and each year thereafter.18,19,20 She attended the funeral of her sister-in-law Pamela Louise Lohman in August 1990.19 Betty Bishop was present at the burial of Pamela Louise Lohman.19 On 25 August 1991 Betty Bishop helped Berdelle Marie Huebner and Abner Gordon Kragnes celebrate their 50th anniversary at Christian Life Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, 210 2nd St. S., Moorhead, Clay County, Minnesota.21,20,22 In January 1996 Betty Bishop and Bill Huebner were employed by H&R Block doing taxes again.      Her obituary appeared at Vondel Smith & Son Mortuary North and read as follows:
Elizabeth Jane “ Betty” Bishop’ loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away following complications from a stroke on August 16th, 2016.

Betty was born in St. Paul, MN, on January 7, 1932. the daughter of William and Esther Huebner. As a middle child of 8, she became the loving older sister to her younger siblings, but also the “Cool Aunt Betty” to her older nieces and nephews.

After graduating from high school in Moorhead, MN, she went to business school in Fargo, ND and was working at Merchant’s Bank when she met the love of her life—Jack Bishop.

Betty and Jack met on a blind date and were engaged a week later. During their time together they had 3 boys, Roy, Jon, Brian, and a daughter, Lori.

Jack’s job took them to Iowa, Nebraska, and Illinois before their final move to Oklahoma City where she lived for the rest of her life.

Betty was an extremely talented seamstress and loved to make clothes for herself and her kids. She also spent a great deal of her time making puppets for overseas ministries and alter hangings for her church.

After Jack’s death, Betty worked for H & R Block, but the majority of her time was spent sharing her love of Jesus with everyone she met. She had a special spirit about her and never met a stranger.

Betty’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Known to some as Grandma, others as Grandma Betty, and Nammer to her youngest grandchild, there wasn’t a day that she didn’t talk, sing or dance with them. And as they grew older, she enjoyed watching them perform at sporting events, recitals, contests, graduations, and talking to them as they began to grow into adults.

Betty is survived by her son Roy and his wife Katherine, son Jon, son Brian and his wife Nancy, daughter Lori Cornforth and her husband John. Grandchildren Samantha, Michael, Joshua, Jared, Jacob, Ally, and Clare. Great-grandchildren Lincoln, Ralston, and Becklynn. She is also survived by her sisters June and Maggie and brother John and his wife Peggy, sister-in law Dolores and Adele, and a number of nieces and nephews and their children too.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jack, father William, and mother Ester and her brothers Wayne and Bill, and sisters Berdelle and Esther, brother in-law Dick, and many other family members.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 19th, 2016 at Vondel Smith Funeral home 13125 North MacArthur. Betty’s Service will be held at Vondel Smith Funeral Home on Saturday, August 20th at 10am with Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the Service.33

The funeral for Elizabeth Jane Bishop was held on 20 August 2016 at Vondel Smith & Son Mortuary North, 13125 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at 10:00. Katherine read the obituary, Roy provided a eulogy, Josh spoke on behalf of the grandchildren, and Ally and one of her brothers gave verses. Roy, Jon, Brian, Josh, Jared, and Jacob, as well as Michael Hart, John Cornforth, and Neil Stepanek were pallbearers.17 She was buried on 20 August 2016 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.17
