BiographyJeffrey Alan Houghton: Dad, left the Army in about 1951 and we all moved to Hammersmith in London W6 where he was would spend the rest of his life, and until he joined the Army think he was Mansfield Nottinghamshire. Various occupations, Technical at the Museum of Mankind (Part of the British Museum); did a lot various things before that.
As far as I know my grandparents came from Nottinghamshire, Mansfield, possibly a village involved somewhere done the line. Grandma had suggested at some stage our family on her side might have come from one of the border counties of Wales.

Jewel Utah Houghton, of San Antonio, passed peacefully on November 21, 2010 at the age of 94. Born in Cottonwood, Ala., Ms. Houghton is pre-deceased by her father, Robert Williams and mother & stepfather, Delia and William Yarborough. Survivors include her son, William R. "Bill" Diez; grandchildren, Steve Diez, Linda (Ken) Snell, Joe Diez, John (Karen) Diez and Julie Hearn; great grandchildren, Jesse Diez, Stephanie Diez, Hailey Diez, Chase Diez and Lilah Hearn. Raised in Tampa, Ms. Houghton moved to Washington, D.C. and enjoyed 30 years with the government, both in the Department of Transportation and the Department of Treasury. Moving back to Tampa upon her retirement, she raised orchids, documenting year after year when each plant blossomed. Moving to San Antonio to be near family in 2007, Ms. Houghton enjoyed living on the lake and watching the birds fly across to roost each evening. Interment at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.

PORT ORANGE, FL -- Elizabeth "Betsy or Beth" Houghton (Papen) Sargent, 81, of Port Orange, FL passed away on August 18, 2017 after a short illness. She was the wife of Stuart E. Sargent. They just celebrated 62 years of marriage together. She was born in Boston, MA to Merrill Y. Papen and Elizabeth (Pickard) Papen. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Merrillyn (Papen) Hauman, step mother, Janet McMillan and step brother, Richard McMillan. She was raised in Lexington Massachusetts and graduated from Lexington High School. She worked in the school office following graduation. She met her husband, Stuart on a blind date arranged by his brother, Bruce Sargent. A story she loved to tell.

As a trained secretary she worked many jobs, but her last job was as a lead technician at Pioneer Standard Electronics from which she retired in 2000. She was a caring and much loved mother of four sons whom Stuart and she raised in Chelmsford, MA. After moving to Florida she kept close contact with her many family members and friends, who meant so much to her. She never failed to send cards with the most comforting and inspiring sentiments, as the occasion required, to family members and friends who most needed them. While in Florida she enjoyed going to yard sales and gardening with husband. She was very accomplished at growing orchids and loved sharing her interest in orchids and gardening with family and friends. She will be very much missed.

She is survived by: her husband, Stuart, four sons, of whom she was extremely proud. Christopher (Virginia), of Lowell, MA, Brian (Sarah), of Candia, NH, Gary Sargent, of Deering, NH, and David (Lee) of Las Vegas, NE. Also, she leaves an expecting granddaughter, Jessica Sargent of Shirley, MA, her brother Richard Papen (Anne) of Center Sandwich, NH, brother-in law Bruce Sargent (Gabrielle) of S. Paris, ME. She also leaves a very close friend that she considered as her adopted daughter, Julie Carter of in Tamworth, NH and her family. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be on Saturday August 26th at 3:00 PM from the Lohman Funeral Home, 1201 Dunlawton Ave. Port Orange, with a viewing for family and friends from 2:00pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association or the National Kidney Foundation. Condolences may be shared with the family through the online guestbook at lohmanfuneralhomes.com.
