WHITE ROCK -- A memorial service for Constance P. Houghton, 97, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, at Chapin United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Caughman- Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC 29036 or to the Lowman Home, Chapel Fund, P.O. Box 444, White Rock, SC 29177.

Mrs. Houghton, born January 26, 1910, in Plainfield, NJ, passed away December 31, 2007. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Caroline Palmer. Mrs. Houghton was employed for 8 years with the legal department of the New York Telephone Company and for 20 years as a secretary for the United Presbyterian Church USA.

Mrs. Houghton is survived by sons, Byron (Mildred) Smith of Connecticut, Robert (Carmen) Smith of Florida, Bruce (Oralba) Smith of Florida; daughter, Beverly (Louis) Urban of Florida; brother-in-law, Rushmore (Muriel) Houghton; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph J. Smith and Everett T. Houghton; daughter, Carol Smylis; brother, Charles Palmer and 2 grandchildren.²

Birdie Houghton Dies Monday
Mrs. Birdie Mae Houghton died Monday at Lallie Kemp Hospital in Independence. She was a resident of Independence and a native of Brookhaven, Miss. She was 70. Services were held Wednesday at Community Funeral Hom_e in Independence. Interment was in Stevens Cemetery. Independence. Site is survived by her mother, Mrs. Comilia Hawken, Los Angeles. Calif.: three sons. William A. Houghton Jr. of New Orleans and John and Joe Houghton of Baton Rouge: two daughters, Mrs. Helen Bates of Dallas, Tex., and Mrs. Ann Ellis of Carpintería, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Ivorrain_e Jones of Jack- son. Miss., a brother. Grover Holloway of Monroe: 10 grandchildren, a great-grandson and many other relatives. She was the widow the the late attorney William A Houghton.
