ObituaryJan 3, 1951Oak Ridge, TN, USA, Undertaker Swallows Poisonous Fluid, Dies
Harold Houghton’s Death Called Suicide; Veteran Of Navy Came From Fort Wayne, In
OAK RIDGE. The first violent death at the Oak Ridge this year occured last night when Harold Houghton, 39-year-old funeral home employe, swallowed a glassful of
poisonous disinfectant and died 15 minutes later in the Oak Ridge hospital. Houghton consumed the deadly poison in the embalming room of the Martin Funeral Home here. 6am . Martin, manager of the funeral home, attributed the suicide to "ill health and an extreme nervous condition probably brought on by Houghton’s service
as a Medical Corpsman with the Navy In World War II. Martin told police today that Houghton came out of the embalming room at 10:30 p. m. Monday night, calling for Martin and his wife. He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance and died a few minutes after arrival. The victim, formerly of Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was co- owner of the Wilson funeral home, had been working at the funeral home here about four months. Houghton, single, is survived only by an aunt and uncle in Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hanes. Funeral services will be held in Fort Wayne.

Mary C. Gray, 89, of the Wenatchee Valley, died Monday, Oct. 7, 1996, at Central Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1907, to Thomas and Elizabeth (Schaffer) Haughton at Madison, Kan., where she was raised and attended school. During the late 1920s, she moved to the Wenatchee Valley.

On June 25, 1930, she married Paul H. Gray at Wenatchee. They spent many years living in Peshastin and Cashmere.
