Hadessa E. McFarland, 89, of Springfield died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at St. John's Hospital. She was born April 15, 1912, in Petersburg, the daughter of Lynn and Elsa Goldsby Houghton. Mrs. McFarland was the owner and operator of a mimeograph and secretarial service for 25 years. She was a member of West Side Christian Church. Survivors: a son, Dwight McFarland of Springfield; and a grandchild. Services: Staab Funeral Home, Charles Lee officiating. Burial: Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Hersel Lynn Houghton, 74, of 29 Meadowlark Lane died at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 1983, at Memorial Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, he was the son of Lynn and Elsa Goldsby Houghton. Before his retirement, Mr. Houghton was employed as a bookkeeper at the Bruce Company for many years. He was a member of Laurel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Virginia B; one sister, Mrs. Hedassa McFarland of Springfield; one nephew.
Services were at Boardmand-Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park.
