Abel and Rachel (Coolage) Houghton. They settled in Stanstead, Province of Quebec, in the year 1804. He was a farmer. He cleared the land and raised corn, and put up a log building for the corn. For three years he went for part of each year alone into the woods, then he married, and took his wife with him on an ox sled drawn by a pair of steers, and taking one cow with him. He raised corn for himself and family...Mrs. Roxselana (Houghton) Brainard d. June 16, 1857, ae. 73 yrs., 5 mos, 9d. Mr. Israel Brainard d. Jul 7, 1862, ae 93 yrs, e mos, 22d.
