ObituaryMrs. Emily Hulbert Dies This Morning
Pneumonia Proves Fatal to Local Nurse
Mrs. Emily Hulbert wife of A. W. Hulbert. Placer County orchardist, died at a local hospital this morning after an attack of pneumonia. Mrs. Hulbert has served as night nurse at the Highland Sanatarium for a number of years. Her comfort to those in distress had gained for her, the love of practically every person1 who had been a patient at the Highlands. Every medical and nursing assistance was given in an attempt to save her life, but the end came early this morning. She is survived by a loving husband, A. W. Hulbert and three fine children: Marian. Robert and Mildred.
ResearchEmily Hulbert: You have my grandmother Emily's middle initial as "E", where did that come from? I know that is what was on her grave marker, but I had always knew it to be "Abia" and I did obtain a certified copy of her certificate of death. They did not spell out the middle name, but gave the middle initial of "A".1

Mrs. Bertha Shults Dies at Home

Mrs. Bertha Alice Shults, 70, died early this morning at her home west of here. She had been ill for several weeks. Tentative funeral arrangements have been set for 1:30 p.m. in the Yost Mortuary at Corning, with burial in the Newville cemetery.

She is survived by a stepson, Leland Shults, and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. O. W. Houghton, Mrs. R. F. Houghton, and Mrs. A. M. Houghton, all of Corning, as well as a number of nephews and nieces. - Transcribed by E.
