Former President of New Jersey Funeral Directors" Group
James M. Houghton, 69 years old, of 986 Summit Avenue, Jersey City, one of the oldest undertakers in Jersey City, died yesterday at his home. He was a former president of the New Jersey Funeral Directors Association and for many years was president of the Hudson County Funeral Directors Assoociation.
He was born in New Brunswick, moed to New York at the age of 11 and came to Jersey City at the age of 21. For several years he was manager of a grocery store, then entered the undertaking business which he conducted for more than forty years. He was elected Coroner in 1906. He also served as a member of the Hudson County Board of Elections.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Martha V. Gildea Houghton; five chilcren and a brother, George Houghton of Fanwood.⁸
