Following is handwritten record from McDermott family: Family Record of Wm. Houghton William Houghton born June 8, 1808 in Waltondale, near Preston,Lancashire, England. His father, Thos. Houghton, was a block printer by trade. His mother's maiden name was Mary Worden and their fathers and mothers were all natives of the same place. Ann Houghton, wife ofWm., was born June 1, 1809; her maiden name, Ann Grime, and her father, Thos. Grime, a block printer. Her mother's maiden name was Catherine Whittle and their fathers and mothers were all born and lived about the same place as I came from. I sailed from Liverpool Jan. 18, 1831, arrived in New York March 2nd,1831. I first worked at Bellville, N.J. at block printing. My wife sailed from Liverpool May 17, 1832, arrived at N.Y. June 26, 1832.This was the great Cholera year and the death rate was about 26 a day. Frances Houghton was born July 28, 1829; Mary born Sept. 18th, 1830 at Clayton Green, near Preston, Eng. John Houghton born July 9, 1833at New York and died Augt. 7th, 1833 and is buried at St. Patrick's Church, Mott Street, N.Y. Grace Houghton born Augt. 12th,1834 anddied Jan. 10, 1862. Catherine Houghton born March 3, 1837 at Rahway, N.J; Elizabeth born July 13, 1839 at Rahway; Thomas born Jan. 21,1842 at Rahway; John born Mar. 7, 1846 at Fall River, Mass; Margaret Ann born April 1, 1849 at Fall River, Mass., died Jan. 11, 1852 at Lowell, Mass; Margaret Ann born Feb. 19, 1852 at Lowell, Mass. Moved to Lawrence in 1852. Ann Houghton died Sept. 11, 1873. Wm. Houghton died Augt. 13, 1885. In 1880 Census for Lawrence, William listed as Block Printer.²
